As part of the potential solution to graffiti, the Brandon Police Service kicked off the Graffiti Stop Program this month, which will provide graffiti victims with a voucher good for a discount on spray removal products at nine locations in Brandon.
That’s a helpful step in the right direction, though we wonder whether another part of the plan — registering spray can customers — will unnecessarily tarnish ordinary consumers who have no intention of missuse.
As annoying, expensive and illegal as paint tagging is, spray paint isn’t exactly a weapon, nor is it a substance that causes bodily harm like tobacco. Putting the product under lock and key may be overkill.
