Great grandmother story

I wish I could have known the wise grandmother who was spoken of in Sound Off this week. It is a wonderful story and it is what it is all about — becoming self-sufficient and working hard and not expecting to be looked after. That was a brave Sound Off to put in and I commend the person who wrote that and their grandmother, and the people who are brave enough to go out there and look after themselves.

Just making them comfortable

In rebuttal to the Sound Off, “This Is Not What They Deserve.” Would you leave a baby lying in filth overnight as long as it was sleeping soundly and then come daylight deal with all the ramifications of your actions? As a health-care professional I understand that those in health care deserve their rest, but they also deserve the dignity of cleanliness.

So can we now have a “gaming centre” too?

I find it very, very interesting that True North in Winnipeg can have a gaming centre linked to the MTS Centre. It is amazing what Winnipeg can get, yet Brandon can not. Just another out-of-the perimeter paradox that Brandon continues to face regarding fundings, etc. It would be interesting to see if Brandon could have a gaming centre attached to the Keystone Centre at the south end to help with the revenue shortage that we seem to be always having.

Winnipeg 3 - Brandon 0

I just read that the City of Winnipeg is just getting their third casino (or gaming centre, for the latest). Now what is wrong with Brandon? Our council should be looking after best interests of the people here and going after the government and insisting that Brandon get a government-run gaming centre. Why the heck is Winnipeg getting everything? It’s time this council gets off their butts and does something.

Lose the inappropriate sign!

To the owner of the pickup truck who parks across from Dinsdale Care Home with the large sign taped to the back of his truck, my young children and I do not appreciate driving by and seeing that offensive language every day. I think you have made your point — now it’s time to move on.

Where have all the books gone?

A big boot to the Brandon Public Library. How come you have multiple copies of books in ebook format and not one in hard cover? Some of us don’t have home computers and as a result, can’t access the information we need. It used to be that public libraries were for rich and poor alike. I see that’s no longer the case.

Use what we have

Is city hall now trying to be responsible for other people’s children at a youth centre? As taxpayers, we are already paying for youth programs at the YMCA, the Friendship Centre, the skate park, the community centres and that is just to name a few facilities available to the youth. Where are the parents in all of this?

Cut it out with all the cuts

Regarding funding cuts to Renaissance Brandon. Police funds get cut, snow clearing/sanding funds get cut, Renaissance Brandon funding gets cut, now logically, which of these should have priority and be up for debate at city hall? In my opinion, it certainly isn’t the non-essential “downtown” revitalization fund.
