Sound Off -- April 15, 2014

Why are the voters so very quiet over the Fair Elections Act?

Members of our armed forces have served and sacrificed for citizens worldwide to have one vote per citizen and now we sit quietly as our own beloved Canada’s democratic rights are decreased and politicized with the stroke of a pen. Please, fellow citizens, it is time to wake up!

Great city … great event — now let’s tell people

Regarding the Sound Off “Why Not Advertise This Wonderful Event?” I totally agree. Why not advertise more about the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair? One can go down three city blocks at this time and there is nothing but garage sales. Can’t we as a city do more for our wonderful event? It really is a wonderful event and I have enjoyed it for 28 years now. Coming from a smaller community, Brandon has so much to offer.

This health-care system is a waiting game

I can only shake my head in reading about Brandon’s ER in the paper! Do they think all health problems happen only between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m Monday to Friday? Are they asking people to diagnose their own health issues? Perhaps some walk-in clinics 24-7 would help! But then it seems in a typical walk-in, one walks in with pain, etc., and is examined and told to see their own doctor. Then have to wait two to three weeks for an appointment. Then an appointment is made for tests and perhaps the person waits a year or so and then still waits three to four weeks for results and is still in pain! The ER is the only place where one gets any immediate action and now people are being turned away from there! Granted, if you are lucky enough to get in the system, you do get the greatest care. But what about the hundreds waiting and waiting and waiting taking painkillers etc.? And this system is often referred to as the greatest health-care system in the world!

Love the convenience of flying from Brandon

I have just recently come back from Victoria via the pleasure of being able to leave from Brandon — no costs to go to Winnipeg, no arrangements to be made — and the same coming back. Everyone was very friendly at the airport. Please, Manitobans, support what is a very important service to our community. The only thing I didn’t see was a coffee machine! Maybe I was not alert though. Great job, airport staff, and the fact that we can actually fly from here is just so great! Changing flights at Calgary was so easy. Beats driving in -40 C weather to another airport! I so truly hope WestJet will stay and we all support it!

It’s that time again

Warm weather coming — does this mean drinking alcohol in our city parks a problem again? If you see it, please report it and don’t just talk about it!
