Hidden behind a password
Having seen stories of staffing shortfalls at Brandon University, I thought I’d check out their budget to get a better idea what is going on. I was stunned to see that this publicly funded institution has now hidden these documents behind passwords. In the past these were publicly available. Just what is BU hiding? Surely the taxpayers should be able to see what their tax dollars are being spent on. How is this consistent with “accountable governance” that the president’s webpage claim to value?
Those responsible for damage should pay for the repairs
To the guy who disagreed with increased fines. My intent for increasing the fine when hitting the Kemnay bridge was not meant as a deterrent ... let these guys hit it as often as they want. I personally think the bridge plays a vital role in weeding out incompetent drivers before they get to the busy Trans-Canada Highway where their inabilities could kill somebody. I just want the cost of repairs, inspections, emergency response and such related expenses to be paid by them instead of the taxpayers.
Increase traffic on the ‘road to nowhere’
The road to nowhere has had an increase in traffic of semis, heavy trucks, etc., that now use Deer Road to get on and off Middleton Avenue. Deer Road is deteriorating due to this increase of traffic. Also, the ditch across from the Chalet Motel is full of fallen trees, shrubs and garbage. This has been brought to the attention of the mayor and the city the last three years. To date, nothing has been done and it’s in a deplorable condition and a real eyesore.
Can’t enjoy the game for the noise
In response to “We Need to Support Our Team” from the April 7 paper. Our family used to be regular supporters of the Wheat Kings and were quite happy to be until we could no longer tolerate the noise of the horns. The last game we attended we had an entire horn section behind us, blowing through the whole game, not just the breaks in play. We left with our young son crying from the noise of the horns. We have not returned! So, yes we still support the Wheat Kings quietly and enjoyably from our couch. You say get out and make some noise — the noise is what has turned away so many faithful Wheat King supporters! If we want to listen to horns, we will spend our money on a concert, not a Wheat Kings game. So sad but so true — just ask the fans who no longer attend!
