This one got caught
Another top dog Tory from the PM’s office is leaving over getting caught trying to influence the Conservative nomination process. Did anyone in the Brandon-Souris riding hear that?
Doubtful of language barrier
With regards to the article about a Spanish-speaking man who was fined for wielding a machete and didn’t understand the police when they ordered him to drop it — how appalling that anyone could live and work in an English-speaking country for more than seven years and not understand the language? We have too many foreigners who don’t know English. I think it should be mandatory that they have a firm grasp of the English language before they are allowed into the country. If he didn’t understand a simple command to drop the machete, how does he get around in day-to-day living? Can he read traffic signs? How does he shop for groceries, etc.?
School Board should adopt a hands-on approach
If the mayor of Brandon can learn about city operations by interacting and taking days to actually do hands-on work in various city departments, why can’t the school board and their top executives and administrators follow that same example instead of wasting taxpayer money travelling to conferences all over Canada and the United States? I think the top administrative people from the school board head office can learn a lot more about the educational process by staying in town and taking a couple of days each month to actually interact with our children and actually teach a few lessons in math or science or history and other subjects at all of the various grade levels. The students can learn from them and they could learn a lot from working with the students.
Another two cents on the Kemnay bridge
The writer of the April 2 Sound Off has a surefire idea by closing 1A, but this would be a major inconvenience to any truck leaving from west of 18th Street, given the extra distance. But refining this idea makes perfect sense; close 1A west of the detour and make it into just a Kemnay access street; no reason for a truck to turn onto it if it's a right angle turn. Curve the road onto the gravel detour past the Pioneer Elevator, pave it and call it 1A. A proper access onto the Trans-Canada Highway would complete the modernization.
Don’t bother asking for donations
’Tis the season for us business owners to get bombarded with donation requests. For those of you asking for wedding social donations, STOP! It is tacky and 99 per cent of you have not even stepped inside my business except for something free. For those of you asking for safe grad donations, HELL NO! I already pay way too much in school taxes on my home and get dinged again for my building. If you are from a charity, there is a good possibility.
