This is my opinion and I am entitled to it

The reason there is still racism today is because there is an accepted double standard to it. For example, a comment will be considered racist (sometimes when not intended to, but is interpreted to be) when it is directed to a race/culture other than “white,” yet when the same comment is directed to a “white” person, it’s OK and acceptable and for some reason no one says “that’s racist.” Don’t know if anyone has realized this. Maybe if everyone truly believed in equality, racism would slowly begin to fade. I sometimes think that many people have no concept of what equality actually means. Equality — the state of being equal, especially in status, rights and opportunities. I personally believe in equality. As I said, this is my opinion and I am entitled to it. It is not meant to offend anyone. The use of “white” was just used as an example, but my opinion is not limited to this.

City should be able to handle both

To the person who wrote golf is just not up to par, soccer is king. I agree with you, soccer is a large sport. We need both good soccer fields and a golf course. There is no reason the city of Brandon cannot have both. Why do small towns like Carberry, Oak Lake, Minnedosa have beautiful golf courses and keep them up and the city of Brandon with its population cannot? Build a dike and the golf course will succeed.

How about Lake Brandon?

This has been mentioned before, but is an idea well worth repeating. How about excavating the flood plain east of First Street and using it for a recreational lake in the summer — something like Curran Park used to be, but larger — and for ice fishing in the winter? It would help with our flooding problems and provide those unable or unwilling to drive to Minnedosa or Clear Lake with the amenities those more fortunate enjoy. This would definitely make Brandon a “destination city.”

You would have my vote

Regarding Gord Steeves’ wife’s comments in Winnipeg. I think that the only thing she did wrong was tell the truth. In this politically correct, ridiculous world, you can not say anything. I believe it is her who is owed an apology. That would be the only apology I would accept. If Gord Steeves was running for mayor in Brandon, I would vote for him … and his wife.

Steeves’ wife owed an apology

If you were accosted by a young person, being a woman with two small children, I am sure you would be frightened and it would be an experience no one would want anyone to encounter. I believe Mrs. G. Steeves is owed an apology.

Please note, the golf course in Carberry is NOT owned by the Town or RM of North Cypress, it is run by a volunteer board as a non-profit corporation I believe.
