Regarding the upcoming “free” welcome to WestJet. Of course the taxpayers are paying for it. Free means you don’t have to pay to go. To me, this is a no-brainer and the mayor is doing exactly what she needs to do. I am so happy that WestJet is coming to Brandon and I’m sure it will bring a lot of revenue to the City of Brandon, something the citizens of Brandon do not seem to comprehend. The same with the casino. People will go where they have to in order to gamble and that revenue leaves the city, when it could stay in the city of Brandon as well as creating jobs. Some cities do not like to go forward.
Y isn’t it even better?
It was high time the aging — can I say decrepit — YMCA was replaced. And it is a fine facility. But it sure is living up to its promise of being family friendly. And that’s really all it is. A big family playroom. It looks like a project that was “dumbed down,” perhaps due to political meddling. The pool area is tiny and really just for splashing around in. Oh, but wait — we’ve saved the Sportsplex pool for ... something. I just can’t remember what right now. Not for the Canada Summer Games as we were led to believe, that’s for sure.
Raves for the Rockets!
Huge congratulations to the Reston Rockets of the Manitoba Senior Baseball League for their championship win! It is refreshing to see a small-town team come out on top. Let’s hope they can find enough players to field a team next year. Way to go, guys! Well deserved and in great style.
How about a city-owned trailer park
If our city council was truly interested or cared about the people of Brandon, it would set aside a quarter section of land in the city and set up a “new city-owned trailer park.” It would create low-priced housing (under $150,000 homes) on 50-foot lots, plus the lot rent and taxes would pay for it within two years, then it’s profit.
