Heads up
I noticed the other day as I was driving down the street there was some young children from a daycare centre and they were all holding on to a rope walking along a sidewalk near an intersection and the leader — the girl from the daycare centre — was busy texting on her cellphone as she was walking and not looking back to see how the kids were. I think that is a very dangerous habit and I think something needs to be done about it.
Next they’ll want a Super 8
Had a good laugh about the moonlighting firefighters! When on the tour I was disgusted to see the single bunks that are provided for each firefighter. If they fight a huge fire and are exhausted, then I do not have a problem with them having a lie down. However, I often wonder if these men and women go to work to sleep. At this very tour a wife of a firefighter from a different city wondered why there were not separate rooms for these beds! The wife made the comment about trying to sleep while others are snoring! Heck, next time the firefighters will just want us to build a hotel next to the station!
Just sip the Orange Kool-Aid
Surprised that Sun managing editor James O’Connor would not be taking the opposite view regarding the lack of hollow theatrics and wasteful spending that would have characterized a Progressive Conservative leadership convention with staged leadership candidates. Brian Pallister has true leadership qualities with a pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to dealing with issues and was easily the best candidate. Perhaps I’d only take a sip instead of a gulp from the “Dipper orange Kool-Aid.”
Save the Rec Centre
Regarding Mum’s Restaurant at the Rec Centre. I don’t know why the mayor and the city councillors don’t want to keep it. It is beautiful out there. It is like a ski resort or a summer resort. The city has wasted so much money on other stuff in town. They could afford to keep the Rec Centre and they could rent the curling ice out to soccer clubs or something and they could give Mum’s Restaurant a lease to keep them there. It is beautiful. It is just a shame to have it destroyed. If you haven’t been out there, you should go and see how nice it is and how it gives you a feeling of the country within the city. It seems they don’t want to keep anything that is of any value in the city. They just want to tear it down and destroy it.
Dig it up then leave
Re: Construction at 34th Street and Rosser Avenue. The city sends an army of workers and equipment to dig up the road on a Friday, and then takes off for the long weekend leaving a car destroyer in their wake. Go figure! Is this what the huge tax increase is paying for? They charge big-city taxes and provide small-town service! I guess the big tax increase was only for new hires. Talk about having your priorities in order! This gang of morons haven’t submitted financial statements for two years running and have the nerve to appear in public smiling like they know what they are talking about. Shameless ineptness and incompetence is the new norm? Go figure!

Why dig up 18th street on the Friday preceding a long weekend? Just to inconvenience thousands of motorists for the next three days?
