Brandon Sun - PRINT EDITION

Sound Off -- August 20, 2012

All people should be treated equally

The Aug. 8 Brandon Sun carried an article about a little girl being killed by a drunk driver. The drunk driver is now going to have a pre-sentence report to look into her aboriginal background. It shouldn’t matter if you are white, red, pink, green or orange, if you hit somebody and kill them — you hit somebody and killed them!

A nightmare

I had a bout of insomnia the other night and ended up sitting on my screened in back porch for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. You’d be surprised at what goes crawling back and forth through those laneways — and it isn’t wildlife! There are all kinds of people — old and young — snooping through garbage cans, casually looking in car windows and generally looking like they’re “casing the joints.” I’ll for sure be installing a motion sensor light under my eaves now, as a bright light always scares the roaches away. And people, lock your garage doors and don’t keep valuables in plain sight in your car.

Start charging the real criminals

Just reflecting on the changes in the Canadian Wheat Board being given the boot. Relatives of mine in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba were dragged up into the court room in those ugly outfits they make them wear and in chains walking up the aisle to plead their case when they managed to sell a few pieces of grain to the United States. Well give me a break. Now that they have been exonerated — thank you, Mr. Harper and the Conservative government, for taking a stand on this stupid issue. I just would like to get on with this thing. Those of you who are naysayers, well too bad for you that you never had to see any of your relatives dragged up before the courts. I would like to see a few of those RCMP members or some of the police wrong-doers dragged up.

Not making use of what they have

Why do we need more city police department parking? They want to close off an entire street for more parking? I recently went through the parking lot at about 2 p.m. and there are 160 spaces provided in the front of which 51 were being used. And the visitor parking area had 20 spots of which four were being used. And where the police cars park in the back, there were 13 spots of which nine cars were sitting there. I am sure of the 180 spots that are in the front they could utilize them rather than closing off a whole street just to make it a little more convenient for them.
