Big thanks to Westridge volunteers

Just wanted to send a shout out to the hardworking volunteers and to the firefighters who have “adopted” the rinks at Westridge Community Centre. You are out there tonight braving the cold to get the rinks ready for our kids to enjoy, and your hard work and dedication is so much appreciated. Thank you!

Smoking us out

People who smoke in the bus shelters are among the most ignorant, rude people in the city. In this bitterly cold weather, people need those bus shacks to stay out of the wind. We do not need to breath in second-hand smoke nor do we appreciate the disgusting smell that lingers when you finish your smoke. Second-hand smoke causes cancer to others. You have the right to damage your own heath but not that of other people. Butt out!

Homelessness is a problem in Brandon

To the person claiming that homelessness and the poor housing situation are not problems for the City of Brandon, rather are for the Province of Manitoba. Get your head out of the sand. The additional Manitoba Housing units being built will have very long waiting lists for people to be able to move into them. Take a look at the fantastic new developments on Stickney Avenue. They were earmarked for families with comparatively higher incomes and those in need of housing had greatly reduced chances of accessing them. Finally, walk around downtown Brandon and see the many people sleeping outdoors. The main fighters to improve our housing situation here are from Brandon. I am sick of homeowners whining about their increased taxes. At least you have a roof over your head!

Golf course needs to be in ‘this’ city

The former base commander of CFB Shilo is totally wrong if he believes the Wheat City golf course should be sold. Brandon needs a decent golf course, every major centre has one, it is part and parcel with attracting events to the city. However, I suppose he thinks we should all drive 40 kilometres out to CFB Shilo to golf.

Thanks to an honest little boy

Thank you to the little boy who returned my credit cards and my identification at Walmart when I was down there the other day. Thank you for being an honest little boy.
