Everything else going up but our wage

Regarding the Saturday headline “Cashed Out.” Very, very pertinent article as both my wife and I are working in Manitoba, have not had wage increases in the past two years in both our respective jobs and unfortunately everything else has had to go up, including housing, as well as cost for fuel, food and anything regarding our children’s education.

Stop bringing in more people if we can’t house them

Regarding the struggle to find housing. I am just flabbergasted about the quotes you had from people. I think one of the things they could go is to stop bringing in more people. I know it is a free country and all, but still as a resident I feel if we don’t have adequate housing we shouldn’t be bringing in more people. I also notice these new people get first dibs at any available housing that is created. Maybe the mayor should be doing something about this. And I am not just pointing out any one group either. Enough is enough. We need to look after our own and then we can expand once it gets better. My goodness, when you have that many people on the streets and that many in shelters then something has to be done.

No surprise here

With a socialist-led city council and a socialist provincial government — both parties free-spenders — is anyone surprised Manitoba is becoming too expensive to live in?

Overtaxed!

To the people of Manitoba, it’s not our wages that are low it’s our provincial government taxing us to death. One-third of my cheque goes to taxes then when I do spend money I get taxed another 13 per cent on everything I buy, so it’s hard to save anything. Just wait and see what our NDP has in store for us next.

I have a great idea!

Why doesn’t the city hire a tax specialist at an inflated wage to see how much money the city can squeeze out of the taxpayers?
