Sound Off -- Dec. 5, 2012

Stop with the excuses

The reason the city has asked us to keep our garbage containers off the lane when dumping is not required is so the pickup can be completed in a more efficient manner. Just because your garbage is picked up in a back lane do you think it gives you the right to leave the containers out. If people who have front street pickup had the same attitude as you, our city would be a disgrace. Quit with the excuses as none are valid and do your bit to keep our city neat, tidy and running efficiently.

Learn to drive to the road conditions

Who is implementing the mandatory use of winter tires? Back in the day we had summer tires and put on ground grips in the winter, then came studded tires and switched back to summer tires in the summer, then all season tires which were good for the year and the tire companies sold fewer tires. Now we have a winter tire and then back to summer tires. If the winter tire becomes mandatory, will the government-run insurance give us a discount for using this tire? I doubt it. All this new technology has done is aid the poor driver and give them a false sense of security, learn how to drive as the conditions dictate.

Don’t forget about those in the pit

Imagine my surprise when it was brought to my attention that Mecca Productions staging of “A Christmas Carol — The Musical” was not being presented totally acappella. It had been very easy to draw that conclusion by the lack of mention of an orchestra in any of the print media advertising etc. I think it would be a very good idea to acknowledge the dedicated musicians who help make this and all the other productions a success, in the same manner as all others involved. Remember, you may not be able to see them but try staging a musical without them.

Too cold out for our furry friends

Hey, pet owners, keep your pets inside when it’s cold. If you love your furry friend(s) you are responsible for taking care of them. This goes out mainly for cat owners, some who neglect them and let them roam 24-7. Also the fools who dump pets in the middle of nowhere, especially in extreme conditions are ignorant dummies. Those that take in a poor stray cat or dog should get a pat on the back because they are good people.

Amalgamation shouldn’t be forced

Couldn’t agree more with the comments regarding municipal amalgamation by Reeve Tom Mowbray of Roblin and Coun. Debbie McMechan of the RM of Edward. The decision to amalgamate should be a matter of choice voted on by ratepayers and done where it make sense and not forced upon them as if they lived in some type of communist regime. Forcing this upon municipalities based upon an uncorrelated request for gas tax dollars and more efficiency is absurd. There are many RMs running on administration costs of less than five per cent of their overall budget. I wonder what this NDP government runs on!

Will pay it forward

I am happy to say my faith in humanity is restored, thanks to the kind couple who paid for my sushi meal after realizing I forgot my wallet at home when I went to pay. Thank you very much and I promise I'll pay it forward to another stranger someday!

Must keep our customs

Regarding the Nov. 27 Sound Off about political correctness is so true. If we moved to another country, we would be expected to live by their rules, so they should have to live by ours. Canadian values should not be allowed to be chipped away at.
