Not worth the play
I would like to thank the premier and the Manitoba Lotteries Corp. for introducing the new VLT machines that were installed in all the hotels and other outlets. I would like to let the premier know that these machines are noisy, confusing and a poor choice and also the payouts are pathetic. We have tried these machines and have quit playing them all together. Some of our friends are doing the same and I would encourage all others to boycott these machines. In closing, I am sure we, the public, will be the winners and the provincial government will be the losers.
Dear Christmas complainers
You complain about Christmas flowers at city hall; you complain about Christmas lights; you complain about people wishing each other Merry Christmas; you complain about businesses having their windows painted up beautifully for Christmas. I love all of the above. I think you have too much time on your hands and I suggest you get a job, do some volunteer work and stop being a Scrooge.
Looking for a new party
Regarding Premier Selinger’s slam at the veterans. I won’t be voting NDP in the next election. I’ve been a longtime NDP supporter, but this was the last straw. I come from a military family and took great offence to his Remembrance Day remarks. Shame on you, Mr. Selinger!
My sympathies are with you
I felt so bad for the person whose dog was poisoned on a reserve. You hear a lot of horror stories about the way dogs are treated on some reserves — like “dog hunting days.” Until people start treating these animals with the respect they deserve, then nothing is going to change. I hope if you get another dog, that you keep it closer to home. My dog is my best friend and yes, they do have personalities and yours did not deserve to die such a horrible death.
It means someone who speaks nonsense, or blather
I have often suspected city Coun. Jim McCrae as being a blatherskite but his comments in the Brandon Sun regarding the impact of Bill 7 pretty much confirms it. There may be a number of reasons to oppose Bill 7 but the fear of developers choosing to take their business elsewhere certainly isn’t one of them.
Ignorant comments uncalled for
For the second time in the last couple of weeks I have seen comments in the Sound Off about low-rental housing and after Tuesday’s comment I feel I have to respond because the person who put in this comment is purely ignorant about low-rental housing. It is not free for people who work — the rent is based on their income. And for you to generalize that all people who live in low-income housing are alcoholics who smoke is ignorant as well. You may have been born with a golden spoon in your mouth and have had lots of opportunities, but I myself have worked three jobs and have paid rent that is over more than half of my income. So get your facts straight before you put such ignorant comments about low-income housing!
Bill 7, what, is our government crazy?
City council must defeat this proposal. Why should the developers suffer financially for people who cannot afford to buy a brand new house? Buying a new house takes a lot of sacrifice which people nowadays don’t want to do. Why should they think that some or any level of government should help them? I tell you the sooner we get rid of the NDP way of doing business the better! Mr. McCrae, you are so right to speak up on this issue.
