Eenie, Meenie, Miney … Schmuck!
I don’t understand all the arguments and conversations revolving around this recent political campaign. Why are we wasting so much time and effort debating their merits or lack of? Close your eyes and mark the spot with an X. They are all the same smooth talkers, making empty promises anyway. One is just as bad as the other, so it makes very little difference.
Hotel tax nets more than $700K
Was this tax not meant to collect funds to attract and promote “new” events to Brandon? Why are hotel tax funds being used to subsidize events like baseball and hockey tournaments and festivals — some that are already well-established and well-attended by visitors for many years? Use the tax for what it was intended — “new events”!
Hotel tax use needs review
Why is the city’s hotel tax only used to attract events? Why can’t more of the extra money it seems to be gathering be directed to the actual buildings that house these events? Seems like common sense to me. The tax has proved to be a bonus for the city, but it now needs some adjustment in how it’s used.
Businesses not to blame for low wages
I am sorry, but people who are complaining about low wages need to shake their heads. Look at the taxes we pay. Every year, our taxes in Brandon go up. Business owners are getting ripped twice. Once for their home taxes and once for their business. Any extra money is going to taxes, not wages. If you are upset at someone, take it out on our school board and civic leaders as they are the problem, not business owners. Owners have to be careful with their financial decisions and spending. The city and school board does not and do not.
What were we paying for?
For the last number of years, Brandon School Division has hit the Brandon taxpayer with annual double-digit increases to improve education. So they claim! How now do you justify the standing of Manitoba students? Only P.E.I. did worse. We are taxed out with no benefit.
