Not a Suzuki fan
It was reported in the Brandon Sun that David Suzuki received a standing ovation for his recent speech and I, who was in attendance, can assure you that that is the furthest from the truth! The odd “tree hugger” in attendance actually stood up and applauded when his speech concluded but the vast majority in attendance remained sitting for this hypocrite because they saw him for what he is, a self-righteous left-wing fake who travels around Canada in his diesel-guzzling buses then preaches about the woes of the global warming myth.
Bill 7 works for me
Coun. McCrae is wrong in his assessment of Bill 7. This is called inclusionary zoning and works in over 200 municipalities in the U.S. It has been around since the latter part of the 20th century and was implemented to stop the spread/developments of ghetto situations. It is extremely good for cities, municipalities and neighbourhoods. I, for one, welcome this bill and applaud the government for the courage to bring it forth.
Bus ride too long
The bus service on Route 1 is dreadful. On our former Route 21 we were downtown in five minutes. We now have to walk on icy streets and it takes 25 minutes to get to the Shoppers Mall. Please return our route!
Be a better manager of money
Regarding low-income housing, I agree totally with the contractors. The city should not be able to dictate what goes on the property that they paid for. When we were younger, to make rent or house payments we had roommates, or boarders, or we worked two jobs. I am sick of people expecting handouts. I have heard people who have three, four, even five kids complain they cannot afford housing. Well, maybe you shouldn’t have had five children. We have one child because that is basically what we can afford. Rent, rent-to-own, get roommates, whatever you have to do, but looking for a handout from our taxpayers is not acceptable and it seems our leaders are caving in and letting you off the hook on my dime.
Good deeds by good people
There are a couple of good Samaritans living in Brandon that I hope to get a chance to thank someday. So, I am writing this in the hopes that they read it. Thank you so much for helping my mother. My mother, who is an 83-year-old resident of Brandon, was walking along Lorne Avenue on Nov. 29. The sidewalk, being extremely slippery, resulted in her falling and fracturing her pelvis. She managed to get up on her own but found she could not walk because the pain was to intense. A gentleman (the first of the good Samaritans) came along and asked if she was all right. Being that he didn’t have a cellphone on him, he flagged down another gentleman (the second good Samaritan). He went and got his car and together they took my mother to the BRHC’s emergency room. Thank you again for being the wonderful people you have proven yourself to be. I would also like to thank the emergency staff for all their care. Very nice, very friendly and very helpful. Thank you so much.
