Please remove your head
Regarding the Sound Off, “How Much Did It Cost Us?” Yes, if you get your head out of your “posh toilets” and into an outhouse you would understand what we are talking about, i.e. resources, hydro and oil taken away from our land — you would understand the things that native people go through. Living on a reserve is not as easy as you think it is. We have reserves so that they can keep us in the reserves and not out and about. You don’t understand how much money that native peoples spend in your white communities.

To the person who was hoping to help a poor unfortunate dog in a bare kennel and no love in the Dec. 19 Sound Off, please call the Brandon Humane Society at 204-728-1333. We have some good suggestions on how you can help this dog.

Regarding the poor treatment of the dog in Sound Off the other day. Anyone who knows about animal mistreatment should be phoning Animal Control (204-729-2345), the Brandon Humane Society (204-728-1333) or Funds Fur Furry Friends (204-573-8333). Your name and address will be held in confidence but more over, the dog’s plight will be looked into. No animal should be made to live in conditions like that!
Report him to Humane Society
To the person that wrote in about bullying and the poor dog that is tied up and a bare dog house. Report him to the Humane Society. Do people not know that dogs are domesticated animals. Boo to the person that doesn’t treat his animal right.
Everything keeps going up but our wages
As the ongoing saga of affordable housing goes on, here is another beef. My husband and I live in an apartment block that was just affordable for us and now we get a letter announcing an increase in rent — OK, one or 1.5 per cent — not in your dreams. They have increased our rent by 9.9 per cent, which means another $81 per month! Our wages have not gone up at all, so how is it we deserve this kind of increase? I am retiring soon so the federal and provincial government and the city had better start building more low-income housing for seniors.
Unions have their place and they should stay there
While I have a lot of respect for employee unions, I feel that they have become much to strong and they do need limits placed on them. For instance, look at the cost of everything you buy and every time the union receives a raise, up the price goes. Finally, when costs of production get high enough, the company closes and moves to another country where production is more reasonable, as they do sell in competition with other companies and eventually Canada will have lost its major producers. Unions should not be authorized to negotiate wages and benefits. They are there to see workers’ rights are protected and that’s the only reason.
Do the right thing
In response to “No Excuse For Abuse.” If I was that nice neighbour who sneaks over to give the dog some healthy dog treats, why don’t you just phone animal control? Someone has to be their voice and if they are not being looked after properly it is up to kind neighbours to make sure they are. With winter upon us, we have to look after our pets that are at the mercy of those who seem to be cruel to their pets.
No apology needed
I see no reason for Brian Pallister to apologize for any comments that a PC Youth Party representative has made regarding First Nations taking over the former Kapyong Barracks. Why is it necessary to apologize to this group every time someone is not politically correct.
