Sound Off -- Feb. 12, 2014

Grey Owl event superb!

My family and I went to the ACC Grey Owl supper on Feb. 4 and had a wonderful evening. The food, presentation and atmosphere was truly elegant. The students and their instructors did a fabulous job. I encourage anyone who has never been to this event to give it a try next year, you would not be disappointed. A big thank you to everyone at the school who made our evening such a pleasure.

Caldwell shows support for his community

Regarding the recent articles about Drew Caldwell deciding to keep his position as MLA and not run for mayor — the comments he made just shows how much he is dedicated to the city of Brandon. Drew does so much volunteering in the community and is seen at so many events. I cannot say this about our other politicians in southern Manitoba. They are not doing half of what Drew does. I am proud to be in the Brandon East provincial constituency. One word used in both articles was “respect.” So, when 2016 comes around, remember who you see in your community and respects your points of view.

Too bad they all didn’t think like Drew

Just reading the comment that Mr. Caldwell made in Feb. 5 paper, “But … I just think it’s dishonourable to abandon your constituents mid-term.” I wonder if Mr. Maguire or Mr. Tweed considered that when they abandoned their constituents recently and how much their decision cost us taxpayers in the two byelections.

Just another tax grab

I was just watching the news and saw that the Manitoba NDP government was studying the idea of taxing junk food. My question is, what exactly do they consider junk food? This seems like another tax grab to me and has further made up my mind to never vote for the NDP in Manitoba.

Didn't Drew Caldwell abandon his city council position and "abandon his city constituents" when he made the jump to provincial politics? If so, where was his "respect" then? Please correct me if I'm wrong!
