Donation Fridays
Instead of wearing ripped torn jeans to work, why not just make it “Donation Friday" and everyone just throw a $5 bill in a basket as you enter your workplace, as a donation to charity. That might make everyone happy and people would look like they represent the image of their employer — decent and respectful.
Lessons learned
In reply to the Sound Off comment “Too Much Information” in the Feb. 16 edition. Perhaps more people’s names and the details of their impaired driving situations should be common knowledge. Maybe embarrassment would help to reduce the number of impaired drivers that endanger innocent lives. That’s fine if a person wants to make a fool of themselves, but when that person gets behind the wheel of a vehicle then it immediately becomes a public safety issue. Kudos to the Brandon Sun for great coverage on this issue. Hopefully the accused has learned a lesson in life.
We don’t need or want a smoke shop
As a Dakota from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation living in Canada, I believe we have to follow and live by the rules set out by the Canadian government. Just because we did not sign a treaty and are referred to as refugees does not mean we can do whatever we like. We get a lot of things other citizens of Canada are not entitled to and some of us are grateful for that. The illegal smoke shop opening in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation is an embarrassment for our community and the owners should be prosecuted and banned from this place we call home. After 20 years of negotiations our community voted on and accepted self-government, which will improve the lives our people. There is a process in place that needs to be followed. For the sake of our children, down with the smoke shop!
Jail is better than the alternative
I think you would find that if it was really rough doing time in jail, there wouldn’t be anywhere near as many idiots wanting to go there. As it is, inmates live a lot better in jail than on the street where you have to work every day, pay for rent and food, pay for prescriptions, pay for entertainment, pay for sports equipment, etc., etc. It’s really too bad if they have to share a room with someone else that they are only in to sleep, after all, there is room for two bunk-beds in the rooms.
Pay true industrial wages
What Brandon really needs is some industry or more industries that are willing to pay decent salaries, then we wouldn’t need to bring in workers from around the world. Not that I am against our new immigrants — I have found them to be very nice, thoughtful people and am glad we can give them such good wages compared to some of their homelands. But let’s pay going industry wages to all and hire our own Manitobans.
Where were your coveralls?
Many years ago, a policy was implemented by the Manitoba government and supported by the Health and Safety Policies regarding the disposition of deer carcasses. Any employee performing this task must be equipped with disposable coveralls, gloves etc. to prevent disease etc. Recently on First Street North, I witnessed highway employees removing a deer carcass in ordinary attire.
