Headline very creative
The recent “Second Coming Of Chrest” headline (Saturday, Jan. 25) is a testament of the talented staff of the Brandon Sun. Needless to say it wasn’t meant to offend anyone and, if it did, well? Headline writing is an art perfected by very few and the Sun has shown it has some of the best in the country. Much pride has been taken in their effort over the years to provide eye-catching and entertaining headlines and captions, and it continues to be demonstrated. To be criticized by those with ‘blinders’ on is unfortunate. Sun staffers, hold your heads high and chest out. You do an excellent job.
Go ahead with complaint … then we can hear both sides
Regarding “Smudge-gate 2014.” I say let’s have a human rights complaint and get everything out in the open. That would be one way we would get to hear the Brandon School Division’s side of this story. Up to now, they have been handcuffed by both FIA and PHIPPA, and are unable to let the Brandon Sun and the public know all of the facts in this matter. Be careful not to judge the school division before all evidence is in or your next meal may taste like crow.
Start cutting then
So the BSD states that in order for a zero percent tax increase they must cut 44 teaching positions? Start cutting then! Times are tough, the taxpayers in this city are tapped out! We are paying through the nose for a substandard education for our children who graduate and they can’t do math or spell properly!
Our children deserve the best education possible
Here’s an idea — let’s support our students by saying “yes” and keeping the status quo. Education is the backbone of our society and the students deserve to be supported by us. Just look south to the U.S. to see what education cuts have done. Our young people are competing for jobs with students from around the world — it’s a global economy and other countries are spending a lot more on education than we are. It’s time for us to “step up to the plate” and pay the extra taxes to keep our students well-educated. I’m sure all parents want this for their children and these children do not deserve education cutbacks!
