Can’t we just all get along?
How sad the world is when events like the upcoming Winter Olympics in Russia are tarnished by the selfish and shameful acts of terrorism. This should be a time where countries can put their differences aside and enjoy the accomplishments of the athletes and the cheering of the spectators. Instead, the event is overshadowed by the usual crap from the same old “religious” fanatics that can’t seem to tolerate peace and harmony.
Build a new Sportsplex pool and get it over with
In regards to the Sportsplex pool. With the new renovations it will be close to almost $3 million over the last couple of years. I think it is time that the mayor and council gave up on it. All we are doing is spending good money after bad. It is not even a viable operation. Instead of spending money like this, why don’t you just build a new Sportsplex? We are spending the money anyway. And I can guarantee you that in a few years after spending this money you will still spend more to keep it upgraded. As a taxpayer, it seems we have nothing to say about it. If that is the case, why not just build a new one or get a new mayor and council?
Stick to your own job
Brandonites clearly stated in the last election that they want the Sportsplex pool kept open. Former mayor Burgess was pushing for a field house just as your editorials are now doing. Your editorials should stop interfering in civic politics.
Be aware out there of phone scammers
Beware! I am a senior who has just been scammed over the phone. I was told that I was a good customer of Visa who paid his account regularly and was about to get a much lower rate of interest. All they wanted was to verify my identity and wanted my card number and date of expiry. I called Visa and they cancelled my card and told me that this was a fraud and they are aware of this going on.
What was the point of this?
Recently I was ambushed by a telephone survey about the growing disparity between rich and poor, a poll that neither gave me the opportunity to express my true opinions nor offered any solutions to the problem. So I wonder, should we increase minimum wages, or lower the amount of income taxes paid by lower-income Canadians? Should we increase the allotment given to social income recipients? Should we increase power of unions and refrain from legislating striking workers back to the job? Should we legislate pay increases to employees? Or cap the salaries of executives? Give me some concrete plans to make changes before asking for my support.
