Chrest a good choice
Thank goodness Mr. Chrest is running for mayor! We don't need any more NDP candidates because all they can do is spend, spend, spend, the same as Premier Selinger. Mr. Chrest has the council experience as well as very good business experience, along with budgeting and staffing experience. (Ed. Note: The Sun will continue to accept Letters to the Editor and Sound Off submissions regarding the fall municipal election until the official campaign period starts May 1.)
Bouquet for mayor
A big bouquet to Mayor Decter Hirst for making herself visible in the community and taking an interest in the concerns of the people and different organizations. Keep up the good work in your next term.
A sitting MLA can’t run for mayor
With all this discussion about our long-serving MLA from Brandon East changing his career track to run for Brandon mayor, it hasn’t yet been noted that the Municipal Candidates Guidebook states that a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba is one classification of job — along with a judge or an MP — which isn’t eligible to run for municipal office. So one wonders how that is playing into Mr. Caldwell’s decision-making process? Unless he believes the polls and thinks his NDP will be voted out of office and he will also lose his job anyway in the next provincial election, leaving his current post voluntarily would be a tough call to make.
A great weekend of culture and entertainment
What a great weekend of entertainment provided by the Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival! This is something we all need to get behind. I always hear people complaining that there is never anything to do in this city. Well, there certainly was an abundance of entertainment this weekend with both the festival pavilions and the Dakota Winterfest. And both were something the entire family, young and old, could take part in. It was so nice to see people of all ages out enjoying all the different venues and cultures. Congrats to all the volunteers for their countless hours of work. It couldn’t be done without you! You should all be very proud! Hope to see you all next year!
