No hope of improvement
Most Brandon Wheat King Fans understood this was going to be a year when making the playoffs would be a challenge, however, certainly attainable given a young defence that was considered among the best in the eastern conference last season. Unfortunately, this supposed defensive strength on the blue-line has been our weakness with each and every player moving backwards in their development. The lack of effort at times by players and questionable coaching has made this one of the most frustrating years to be a Brandon Wheat King fan. What is really troublesome is that their play of late leaves little hope for any significant improvement for next year. Some tough decisions for Kelly in the days to come.
Struck with Trudeaumania
I heard about Trudeaumania when Pierre Elliott Trudeau was running for prime minister of Canada. I went to hear his son, Justin, speak at Brandon University and I felt that Trudeaumania that was spoken of, all of those years before. I wanted to hug Justin, kiss him on the cheek. He is intelligent, he is cute, he is adorable, he is open, he is transparent, he is engaging, he is young, he is charming and he is beautiful. This young man had a profound effect on me today. Justin, you made my day, my week and my month!
Charmed by Justin
I went to see and hear Justin Trudeau speak at BU on Jan. 31. I was a student at the University of Regina in the l980s when his father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, was prime minister of Canada. I was going to attend a dinner to hear Mr. Trudeau Sr. speak and the cost at that time was $25 per ticket. I thought that since Mr. Trudeau Sr. had been PM for so long that I would catch him the next time around. Needless to say, this opportunity never came around again. I was sure not going to miss seeing and hearing his beautiful, brilliant and very intelligent son speak and he did not disappoint. A woman in the crowd told me that she thinks that Pierre named him Justin because his name means justice. How very interesting. What a wonderfully, interesting morning it was indeed. You made my day, beautiful, handsome, charming, honest, open, adorable, transparent and intelligent, Justin Trudeau!
Big hugs for Johnney
A big “thank-you” again to a wonderful, smiley young man called Johnney. After my vehicle slid on some ice, I became “hung up” in a snowbank. No chance of getting out on my own. This young man took time to tow me out. The cost to me was a “hug.” How nice is that? The rest of my day was appreciating how fortunate I was to be unhurt and to have such wonderful help.
Clearing up the facts
I would like to make a couple of points in reference to the editorial of Jan. 29, “Unanimously Opposed Idea.” Firstly, municipal size has nothing to do with who has or has not completed their audits to date. Secondly, the “legal threshold (for a municipality) of 1,000 persons” is, according to the Municipal Act, the threshold for forming a new municipality. There is no threshold for existing municipalities. There are many very good reasons for the vehement opposition to this ill-advised initiative.
Where is your common sense?
With all the educated bodies in the Brandon School Division office, you’d think if they all assembled in one room, one might find at least one brain that had common sense! Every other school division will close their schools or not run the school bus when it’s -45 C. Not the Brandon School Division! Maybe we should find someone to run the place who has children or maybe cares about their well-being and not just the bank account of the division! Come on, people. Pull your heads out of that little office and maybe ride in the yellow tin cans shaped as a bus.
Take my coat, please
Regarding Coats For Kids. I was quite surprised when I took a winter jacket to the United Way in October, only to be told that the drive for Coats For Kids was over. Apparently it was done in the spring. After a lengthy discussion, I was able to leave the jacket at the office. You would think they would be thankful for any donation. Besides the Winnipeg United Way is still seeking donations for this cause.
