Have a little faith in our Wheat Kings
I have to disagree with the person that wrote “No Hope For Improvement For Our Brandon Wheat Kings.” Since the big trades, I find the games are much more exciting to watch. The young players we have are showing the fans what they are made of. They may not be winning all their games but the plays seem to be better, the discipline is certainly there and they are trying hard to win games. We all knew this was a rebuilding year. Let’s not write off our players or our coach just yet. I am really looking forward to next season to see where all these young players are going to take us. We have numerous great players that can only get better.
Let’s aim a little younger first
Instead of the city planning to spend all that money on the old Convergys building for a youth centre which we really don't need, here is an another suggestion. We are very short on daycare space here in Brandon, as anyone with small children needing daycare would agree. Could the city or someone put a big beautiful daycare in that building? I know friends who have to put their little ones on waiting lists for months and months, and sometimes end up putting their babies in places less desirable. I am also sure that they would not have any problem staffing the daycare. It’s a big building and they could do lots with it regarding a daycare.
Hats off to all the Winter Festival pavilions
I wasn’t able to attend all of them. However, the ones I were at were just great! I can’t imagine how many volunteers each pavilion had. I think it is great that Brandon has that kind of support. I found out and I especially salute the German pavilion as they do a lot of work with the Crocus Plains high school. The students were the ones who made the pretzels and the candy apples and all that other kind of stuff there. I think that is a great experience for them and it shows they can be community involved with a profession that they belong in. It was a great time. We need this in the winter to help cheer up!
I have sent two emails to the City of Brandon about the terrible system they have for cleaning and sanding sidewalks. If you are walking on the side streets you can walk on the street because there is not much traffic. You cannot walk on the street on the main arteries because of the heavy traffic. If you value living much longer and you cannot walk on most of the sidewalks since they are either all rutted or plugged with snow.
When will they learn crime does not pay ... that good?
I would like to extend thanks to a job well done by police in their Project Dilemma. Thanks for getting those drugs off the street and also for arresting those wayward crooks, when will they ever learn that crime doesn’t pay that good?
Must find a balance
I found the remarks by the school board chair, Mark Sefton, somewhat disturbing. An interview in a local paper stated that he has advice for anyone wanting to run for school trustee in the next election. You need to know what your focus will be — the kids or saving taxpayers from increases. It has to be a balance of both. Not everyone can afford these increases every year, and the budget needs to be scrutinized carefully. I know that salaries are a huge portion of the money needed each year. Who stands up for the taxpayer in all of this?
Doing it their way
While the NDP originated from Saskatchewan’s CCF Party, which was formed by ex-Communist Party members, it’s no wonder that Manitoba’s NDP don’t give a “toot” about what Manitoba citizens think of their policies, that seem to originate from way back. They don’t care what you think, they’ll just do it their way, no matter what the cost to Manitoba taxpayers.
