This medical care — or lack there of — is unacceptable

To the person commenting on the Brandon hospital bumping someone’s MRI for someone who has cancer — did you ever think that the person being bumped may have undiagnosed cancer? Sad, I think the medical system is barely covering emergencies. Minor problems are becoming major before they are treated! Urgent tests waiting anywhere from seven months to a couple of years — receiving notice that you will be informed a month before the date of the test and still waiting. Doctors need to demand more for their patients. This is not acceptable treatment. We need to stand up and demand better medical care.

This city is an embarrassment

Does anyone know how much the city committed to the YMCA every year? With all the problems the city has, maybe that should be cut, too. I am disgusted with the way this city is run. Why didn’t the university and the YMCA agree on joining? Simply because mayor and council just had to revitalize downtown? This council and mayor spent hard-earned taxpayers’ money on trying to get the 2017 Canada Summer Games even though they knew our Sportsplex swimming pool was not satisfactory. Brandon is becoming an embarrassment. Think, citizens, when the next election comes along.

Small towns building up while Brandon closes down

Why is city council talking about closing the Sportsplex pool when all the smaller towns around are building and improving their sports facilities, and all health studies say we need more sports and exercise facilities? If groups like those developing the Strand Theatre can ask for federal and provincial government grants, why can’t the Sportsplex? The Sportsplex is used by thousands of people and deserves it more than private business groups like the Strand Theatre. If city council wants Brandon to be a world-class city, they should show some class and provide and promote first-class facilities like the Sportsplex. They spent thousands on “Welcome to Brandon” signs but do nothing to promote the Sportsplex. How much good did those signs really do?

How can other smaller cities have better pools than us?

If the city is giving any grants to the golf course and places like the YMCA, they should be putting that money into the Sportsplex pool instead and money from the hotel tax as well. They should take a look at the facility they have at Portage la Prairie — the ice rink and the excellent pool they have there. Maybe they could learn a few lessons. We definitely need a Sportsplex.
