Brandon Sun - PRINT EDITION

Sound Off -- Jan. 16, 2014

Close the gate and let’s go

In the Jan. 9 edition of the Brandon Sun, an article states that WestJet flights from Brandon are late approximately 25 per cent of the time. We have flown twice from Brandon to Calgary in the last two months. Both times, the plane arrived on time. The problem was that the gate in Brandon continued to accept passengers right up to the flight time! People need to arrive earlier, the screening needs to be speedier and the gate and screening area need to be closed at least 30 minutes prior to the flight departure time. Unless this is done consistently, passengers like ourselves will be unable to make connecting flights from Calgary due to the late arrival in Calgary. Also, there is no excuse for departing passengers to wait 40 minutes on the WestJet plane when we have one flight a day.

Stop your complaining

Why are people complaining about WestJet flights being late into Brandon? You could waste three hours on a horrible trip to Winnipeg and the flights in Winnipeg could be delayed an hour or half an hour. I really enjoy this service. It is great we have WestJet in Brandon.

Time to head west?

So the city is going to take a 1.4 per cent increase in taxes, the school division is next and then Premier Greg Selinger, who said no tax increase last election but has taken two of the biggest tax grabs in recent memory. This all has to come out of my pension, which will see a zero per cent increase this year as in past years. Any western province is starting to look better.

Hope you all plan to attend Brandon School Division budget

I hope the irate taxpayers who attended the City of Brandon budget meeting will also be attending the School Division budget meeting on Feb. 12. There they will be able to consider a tax increase that will no doubt be double what the city was asking for.
