Dear Rednecks
Over the past few weeks, I have been completely appalled by the amount of ignorance and arrogance that has appeared in the Sound Off section of this paper. So far, aboriginal people have been told that they are less intelligent than a bull; the French have been told that their language is unworthy of being taught because it’s “dying”; youth centres have been deemed as a waste of taxpayer dollars; the Brandon University Students’ Union has been told that its support of peaceful protest is akin to supporting the Taliban; and we have a group trying to pull the plug on women’s reproductive rights. Is Sarah Palin writing in the Brandon Sound Off in her spare time? Will the next submission be asking for Africa to be called a country? Because that might actually be less ridiculous than some of the opinions I have seen on here.
Where there’s smoke …
Was really looking forward to the Tragically Hip concert! Started out well, ended early as the smell of pot was obnoxious! Seriously? In a non-smoking building.
We appreciate the donations of the Irish Society
In regards to all the people barking about, “Show us the money” from the Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival. I would like to say that I know for a fact that the Irish Society along with many others have made generous donations, one of which was to my daughter’s soccer team. One donation was so generous it allowed our girls, in a competitive league, to travel and experience many tournaments which they would not have been able to without the generous support of the Irish Society. All you have to do is ask politely and they would be more than happy to show you where the money goes.
Give it a try yourselves
It would appear that the city wants to stay with angled parking. I suggest that Mayor Decter Hirst and Rod Sage each take their own vehicle, go downtown, and park on both Ninth Street and 10th Street on Friday at about 4:15 p.m. I would like them to park in the angled parking zones with a car parked to their left. Back out and see if you feel safe getting out of your spot, with your necks craned to the left. I think you should fix this aberration by having cars angle parked on the right side of the road. Do this before you start anything else that’ll go wrong!
Thanks for a great show!
Wow! A big bouquet to 7 Ages Productions and all the performers for the fantastic show “The Producers” that they put on this past weekend! What great local talent we have right here in Brandon. Jeremy and Clint … you guys rock!
