Way over-priced
What is wrong with our government when they want $200,000 for classrooms? There are a ton of two- and three-bedroom homes built in the south end for around $230,000 including basement interior walls, a couple of bathrooms, a full kitchen with appliances, garage, rear deck and a small lawn. A slab home (no basement) goes for under $200,000 finished, and these are almost 1,200 square feet. Maybe check North American Lumber just under the 18th Street bridge and see what a 1000 square foot house with non-interior walls is actually worth!
Another waste of money
The mayor and council think that police services can be cut? What are they thinking? Why are they wasting money, $3 million plus operating expenses for a youth centre? Is this a knee-jerk reaction for the casino and the games not coming here? Maybe they think that at least when they put the money aside it will actually have a chance of happening! Stop spending! Changing all the logos on city vehicles, changing the motto — what a waste of money!
Wide awake and weary
Sleep disorders is a large and growing problem for both working people and seniors. So it was a great opportunity to hear Dr. Carlyle Smith at the Provincial Go Centre on Monday night. Smith is a renowned expert in this field. Several hundred people, including myself, took in his tips and advice.
Worth getting on your feet
David Chilton, “The Wealthy Barber,” spoke wonderfully at Ag Days on Tuesday morning to a large audience. I think those occasions when people truly deserve a standing ovation are few. This was one such occasion.
We don’t want French schools!
Apparently our school board can’t read English. Brandon taxpayers want English learned in our schools, not a dying French language. The affluent can pay for private French lessons. We don’t want portable classrooms for a French school, we need them for English-speaking schools. Do you hear us?
Who is smarter?
Well, let’s see. A bull or a group protesting and tying up traffic on 18th Street — who has the most mentality here? I am betting on the bull.
Thanks for lending a hand
On Saturday afternoon, my wife, young son and I had the pleasure of eating at a new restaurant in town along with several other hundred people. I have a disability, so it was difficult to get in and out of the restaurant with the crowds. But a big thank you to the gentleman who assisted us on exiting the restaurant, which was full of people in the lobby. Many of the people were very friendly and patient. So thank you to the gentleman who helped us get out past the couple who were very impatient and rude. Nice to know there are still people out there willing to help. The restaurant itself and food were just great.
