Not necessary to bring occupation of father into it
Regarding the Jan. 16 Brandon Sun top story, “Cop’s Son Pleads Guilty To Graffiti Charge.” I am wondering does it really matter if it was a cop’s son or is this just another way of slamming the police. If it was a farmer’s son, would it read, “Farmer’s Son Pleads Guilty” or anyone’s son or daughter for that matter? I don’t think it really matters if it was a cop’s son or not. It didn’t need to be announced that it was a cop’s son. I have no connection with the cops. I am a farmer from rural Manitoba and I just don’t think that was necessary.
French isn’t just for the rich
“The affluent can pay for private French lessons.” École New Era School is not full of rich French kids! I’m tired of hearing that the French program is elitist — every single student in the Brandon School Division is entitled to an education in both French and English if they so choose. My husband and I don't speak French — we just knew this is what’s right for our kids and anyone else in this city could be in our shoes. What’s wrong with wanting our kids to do better than we have?
Not interested in Winnipeg news
Why can’t Brandon have a TV station? I miss the old CKX. I can’t see why Brandon couldn’t make a TV station work, there are plenty of smaller towns that have one. I’m sick of watching Winnipeg news and weather when its usually just whats happening around Winnipeg and their weather is completely different then ours.
Time to get with the times
Is there a way in which people on set incomes can receive an increase to match the amount needed to keep up with the increases in the costs of everything which has to be paid? There are price increases on the purchases of taxes, food, water, hydro and everything else. Also, as these prices rise, so does the amount of provincial and federal tax money. Pension money paid into that category 30 years ago, were for prices of that time. When was the last time that pension plan receivers had a rise in pay equal to the rise in the cost of living?
Laws needs an overhaul
The province has determined the elk hunters, which I would call shooters, broke no laws. The decision as I see it — there are two different laws, when it comes to hunting and that is the sad part in all of this. There is the law of survival when the killing of animals is necessary to have food to eat, to sustain oneself and family. The other law that is flaunted in the face of Conservation, is “we can do this, because we have the inherent rights to do so.” That is the law that needs a complete overhaul, as to the indiscriminate killing of animals. Rumour has it that there is interest in a new movie production — the name being considered ... “The Elkslayers.”
A kind gesture
A big bouquet to a young man at a Sobeys store recently who was so kind to the person behind him to give them his points for his Sobeys card. I was very impressed.
