Hey, where’s my new house?
I just read Heather Sharpe’s Letter To The Editor. Yes, the emphasis must be on affordable rental units for people and that is a responsibility of the provincial government is it not? The taxpayers of this city, for most of us are struggling too! For those of us who are trying to pay and stay in our houses, why should we pay civic taxes to help someone own a brand new house? We are all sitting in older homes, should any or all levels of government pony up so we can live in a brand new house too?
We need to take a stand
The way I see it, we are being bullied by the First Nations people in this country. Kudos to our prime minister for taking a stand. It is very clear that the Liberals and the NDP are desperate for votes or they would back his decision. If you agree, contact your MP now as something needs to be done. Let’s see how many Canadians will speak up.
Learn to merge ... properly!
To the visitors comments about merging on 18th Street and Rosser Avenue, the green light does not mean step on the gas to pass the car on the left — that car has the right of way! Often the vehicle in the right lane tries racing through the intersection almost hitting the vehicle to the left when they cut them off. On Friday, Dec. 21, at noon one such person raced through the intersection to pass everyone but had to swerve to avoid the oncoming vehicle and nearly hit the signal lights. The vehicle he tried to avoid hitting was a police car. One of these times people are going to race through there and kill someone.
No ‘invasion’ here
Regarding the article “Protesters Invade The Shoppers Mall” in the Dec. 22 paper. While I applaud the fact that this was noteworthy news, I do have to say I have a problem with the headline. It was not an “invasion” of the mall. The people who were in there had permission to be there and it was a peaceful protest. Everyone and anyone was encouraged and welcomed to join in. There was no “invasion,” it was allowed.
Enjoying your hospitality
As a longtime Brandon Wheat Kings season ticket holder, I’d like to commend the staff at the Westman Communications Place for their friendliness. From the men and women who work at the concessions who always treat us well, to the cleaning staff who keep everything clean and smelling fresh (especially the bathrooms) to the security staff who are always welcoming and helpful, to the 50/50 sellers who take time to chat and wish you well, to the ticket checkers who greet everyone with a friendly hello even when it’s busy and cold. Thank you all for a job well done.
Mature student at 21
I chuckled when I read Brandon University’s new campaign ad targeting mature students. I checked with a student service friend and found out that you only have to be 21 years old before the end of final exams. Therefore, if you are 20 and will be 21 by the end of April, you are admissible. Does BU not know its own admission requirements?
Learn some discipline in the army
We want to curb domestic violence or stop young boys and girls from being mean to each other — well, at the age of 18 to 21 they should have to spend a year in the military to learn some respect for each other.
