Sound Off -- Jan.7,2013

To those thieving brats

To the brat(s) who go to King George School and hang out at the East End rink, you have taken my car plug-in cord for three years in a row. In case you are mindless, it is called theft. I wish for you in 2013, a very guilty conscience, enough to bother you!

Just look down and to the right

I appreciate good photography and in the Jan. 2 Brandon Sun the photo of the New Year’s Day train derailment in the Brandon yard was a great one. Loved the curious white tail deer checking out the wreckage in the foreground! Great picture!

Thanks for starting the ball rolling

Thank you to the Sound Offer who wrote in and described the current situation Brandon faces as being a lack of “affordable shelter.” For bejeezus sake, who would ever have the brain wave that we all want to own a house. Just a nice, clean, safe apartment, thank you. That the average or low-paid or unemployed person can afford. Stop saying “affordable housing!”

What were you thinking?

Regarding the new smart cards for the Brandon Transit buses. Who decided the only location to reload the card was at Eighth Street and Rosser Avenue? Plus, when you get there you must have cash! No debit, no credit cards! Do you realize what a huge difficulty this is that you have forced on the people with a handicap/disability who use the Handi-Transit? Please make it more user-friendly for those who need assistance!

A great start for the new year

I would like to express my deep and sincere gratitude to the individual who picked up my teenage son’s wallet at the entrance to Winners and then turned it in, with all money and ID intact, on New Year’s Eve. I had just given my son, who is home for Christmas and attends college in another province, some money to buy himself a new shirt for New Year’s. He absent-mindedly dropped his wallet in the excitement and the rush that is New Year’s Eve. I am not currently employed full time and so your act of honesty was greatly appreciated. Thank you, whoever you are, and may God richly bless you in this new year! Thank you so much again. You made me believe in some of the goodness of mankind again.

Another act of kindness for the new year

I would like to express by sincere thanks to a gentleman who helped me on Jan. 3 as I was on my way to attend a funeral. I had to park my car some distance away from where the funeral was being held and as I was walking down McTavish Avenue, I fell and this gentleman stopped his vehicle and got out to help me up. He dusted the snow off me and escorted me back to my car so I could move it up closer. I would like to thank this gentleman for his caring and unselfish act in what sometimes feels like a very selfish and uncaring world. I appreciated your act of kindness so much. I wish you nothing but the best in this new year.

Can’t win without the west

As a long time observer of the world junior hockey tourney and having attended nine of the tournaments, it’s obvious we win gold when our junior team has a WHL coach and majority of Western League players. When we’ve had a WHL coach we’ve won 11 golds with the Hays, Babcocks, Sutters, etc. who have had their respective teams “stacked” with Prairie farm boys from the west. As legend junior coach “Punch” McLean from Estevan once told me: “Your not gonna win with the eastern city kids, too soft and not willing to make the sacrifice physically to win the big games.” I’m sure most knowledgeable hockey fans will agree with this assessment, the statistics for the World Juniors speak for themselves!
