Hey there, time traveller!

Where does all the money from the pavilions go?
Not one of the other groups has to submit their financial statements at the end of the year to the Government of Canada as does the Brandon Folk, Music and Art Society. Yet the Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival turns away another group of volunteers? What a bunch of hypocrites! What a slap in the face to all the volunteers and visitors to the U.S.A. pavilion last year. Check some other pavilions out. Follow the money.
It was an ‘invasion’
I read in the Sound Off the other day about the “no invasion” comment and how someone had said that Shoppers Mall had allowed the protesters to be there. I do work at the mall and I can tell you that they had initially called and asked permission, for which they were denied. They showed up once and the police were not called. On the second protest the police were called and refused to respond. But at no point did the protesters receive permission from security or anyone to be at the mall and, in fact, they became aggressive and blocked exits when people were trying to exit the food court at Shoppers Mall.
Disappointed in decision
Very disappointed to hear the Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival committee declined the American pavillion. The volunteers at the Brandon Folk, Music and Art Festival did a great job of hosting the event and should be commended for representing an ethnic group that normally doesn’t get represented or recognized. This smacks of personal politics on the part of the committee. They all raise money for other activities, so to use the fact that the funds go to folk fest is a crock. Great reason to stay home this year.
Fish broth is good
Chief Theresa Spence seems to have a different understanding of what a hunger strike is. She is living on water and “fish broth.” Fish broth is a very low-calorie food, but it is highly nutritious. After three weeks, one would expect to see photos of Chief Spence looking quite gaunt and sickly and a mere shadow of her former self. This certainly is not the case and the irony is she may very well be doing her body a favour! Why is every Idle No More story not accompanied by a story exposing the millions and millions of dollars that has been mismanaged? Chief Theresa Spence is the poster child for all that is wrong with the poverty that exists with our First Nations people.
Stop giving them press
I think one of the solutions for Idle No More would be for the media to all go home and leave them to their own deliberations. Chief Spence and her hunger strike is really a mystery — she is looking great and certainly doesn’t want to talk about her $270,000 salary. I wonder why if she feels she earns this amount while her fellow residents on the reserve live in extreme poverty. I believe she should be prepared to defend this situation. Like always, it is always just do what I want you to do.
Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival — shame on you! I see no difference between the American pavilion donating to the Brandon Folk Festival and the Ukrainian pavilion donating to the Troyanda School of Ukrainian Dance, except that the folk festival plays a larger role in our community. You are making up the rules as you go along. Let the American pavilion back in! (and no, I have no involvement with the folk fest at all).
