Brandon Sun - PRINT EDITION

Sound Off -- July 10, 2014

Better to learn Spanish

Regarding the story “Parents Push For Expanded French Immersion,” from June 27’s Brandon Sun. Spanish would be far more beneficial to learn as it is used far more worldwide and rapidly gaining popularity in Canada. French will never be popular in Western Canada.

Bring back the cane

If it is proven that the fire at the Criddle/Vane homestead was caused from vandals ... catch them ... and then the cane! Many of us would volunteer to wield the cane.

Flaunting sexual orientation brings on trouble

Regarding the story in the paper, “Gay Hate Crimes More Likely To Involve Violence, StatsCan Says,” from June 27. Flaunting their sexual orientation with parades and open celebrations will only encourage reaction from non-believers and radicals.

Enough to send me back to Winnipeg

Brandon Sun + Mayor bashing = Time to move back to Winnipeg. I have just about had it! I have been out here for nine years now and it is the same old same old with you people.

Kudos to Hextall and Quenneville

I would like to congratulate a childhood friend of mine for being promoted by the Philadelphia Flyers. It is always nice to see a Manitoba-born player being promoted so high. I congratulate Ron Hextall and I am sure he will do a very good job with them in the future. And also kudos to John Quenneville. Something so deserving for the Wheat Kings and for the Westman community.

Rising taxes just can’t continue

I finally got around to reviewing my property tax bill and after some quick calculations I realized since 2011 my taxes — school and city — have gone up an average of 24 per cent each year in the last three. That is crazy! An in-depth audit of both the city and the Brandon school division spending habits needs to be done.
