Not hot enough
I really can’t understand all the media attention around the 30 degree temperatures, sure it is warm but we have had it much warmer. It’s not news until we hit 35 degrees or higher so please quit all the fuss about the heat, this is July after all?
Abandoned houses need to be cleaned up
I have read today about a housing shortage in Brandon. Why then has a big old house near Louise Avenue and Seventh Street been allowed to sit abandoned for over two years — even the yard is left unattended. It’s a disgraceful eyesore to the people who have to live around it! Shame on the owners!
Ease the burden and let it go
Regarding the Rec Centre development. The city has a chance to do something that will ease the burden on taxpayers — here’s hoping they don’t drop the ball on this one! If Mum’s Restaurant has to go, so be it, the city does not owe them anything!
Confused by signs
While I like the new “Welcome to Brandon” signs, I find them pretty sharp, but where does the sign say welcome to Brandon? These signs would be better suited to line the streets of our city on our street lamps! Where is the enticement to come visit our city?
Hazardous waste disposal a hassle
Hazardous waste is a problem in Brandon. Since I am moving suddenly and selling my house, I was concerned to get rid of about 20 old paint cans. From information in the Brandon Sun, I took them to Home Hardware, which accepted the paint, but not the plastic jugs of paint thinner or linseed oil. A trip to the land-fill site seemed in order, but the attendant there told me that I had missed the June 9 collection (who knew?) and there would not be another one until October. My hazardous waste would have to be left to be discarded by a future owner. When I suggested that I would do what everybody else does — drop the waste in the black bins, she threatened me: garbage truck drivers carry cameras and there will be a fine.
Better appreciate what you have
Regarding “Harper Government Obsessed with Silencing Debate and Stifling Dissent” (June 27). If that person doesn’t like our land of the milk and honey try moving out to Pakistan where the bullets and bombs fly or Baghdad where the boys had to go in and clean up. You would be awfully glad to live in Canada again. Or try living down in Mexico where the bullets fly with the drug cartel. I think you would change your mind pretty fast.
