You have a garbage bin at home — use it!

While travelling the provincial road 250 north to Highway 45 we were totally disgusted with all the garbage and litter that is dropped off on the sides of the road. Is this how you people keep your own yards or do you have yards? There should be a heavy fine instated for these people when caught. Where is your respect for a environmentfriendly and clean Manitoba? Come on people have some dignity and drop your garbage in a garbage can at home.

Rather misleading

The BSD gave the public a couple of good reasons as to why our high school grad rates are so much higher these days, ie. much more adaptation and an adult school, and they are correct. May I, as a high school teacher for over 30 years, give another reason, one not so politically correct. The Manitoba Education Department would obviously never acknowledge or agree but the lowering of our academic standards along with a not so subtle “get them out of here any way you can” approach (basically a no fail policy) inflates these numbers and will not serve our “future” well. A “true” 99.6 per cent graduation rate, I don’t think so!

Off Campus did wonders for my son

In response to the comments about the Neelin Off Campus program. My son got his diploma only thanks to this program. Although a very intelligent boy he was unable to concentrate or participate in school learning or activities. He was distracted by the crazy antics and behaviours of other students and some teachers. He had no desire to join any cliques. It was easier for him with the Neelin program to concentrate and graduate. He now holds down a full-time job making amazing money. He is due to work at 7 a.m. but is awake and ready daily at 6 a.m. He is happy and works hard. So the Neelin program helped — not hurt — my son’s education and future. Hats off to the teachers in this program.

Overgrown with weeds and grass

Please get that $2.65 million from the province, then maybe you can afford to cut the long grass and weeds around the parking lot in the 300 block of 10th Street where city employees park!

I’m crossing here!

God bless the drivers in Brandon who aren’t in such a hurry that they cannot stop at a pedestrian crosswalk. This city isn’t that big. It is not that hard to get around in by vehicle. I think that we are a little spoiled here compared to other cities in Canada. I am glad that I still have two legs to walk with and two arms that can move. I don’t know what it is — if drivers are texting or on a cell phone or whatever, it might not even be that — but they just don’t see the pedestrian crosswalk signs anymore. I am at a point where I am thinking about getting one of those horns they use at football games to announce that I am crossing or perhaps a bright orange neon vest even though it may clash with my outfit. What else can I do?

Do you also get rid of your kids if you don’t want them?

What is with these people who take dogs and then they decide that they don’t want them. Similarily with cats. That is so cruel. If you are not going to keep a dog you should not be able to have one in the first place. Do you get rid of your kids if you don’t want them? It is just not right for people to take a dog and then all of a sudden decide they don’t want it and so they do something else with it. It makes me sick. I think these people should be charged dearly for doing that. They should have to go to court just like anyone else for committing a crime.
