Banning our rights
Let me preface this by saying that I am not a smoker nor do I think that it is ideal for people to smoke around children. However, I think the provincial government has overstepped its boundaries in banning smoking in people's personal, private vehicles in the presence of minors under 16 years old. What's next? Banning smoking in people's homes? Banning pregnant women from smoking? Last I checked, smoking is not illegal (restricted in public places, yes) and smoking is a personal choice, may I even say right?
Butt out
I don't spend a lot of time in the downtown area, but in the last few days I have noticed very young mothers with small babies in strollers sitting very close while they smoke cigarettes. With all the information out there about second-hand smoke I just think that mothers should be more considerate of small babies because they cannot walk away from the smoke.
Sticks and stones ... and baseball bats?
A short while ago there was a Sound Off about foul language at a MSBL game. Perhaps the complainer was not in the same area as I was. There was a disagreement with the ump and a close woman friend of the Cloverleafs yelled at least twice, "Hit him with a baseball bat." Which is the worse example to set for children?
Vote for a change
My cousin has been doing some of the enumerating in preparation for the upcoming election. He said the level of voter apathy is just appalling. Very few people in Brandon want to vote. Their main reason -- nothing will change around here, so why bother? These are the very people who need to get out and vote. Your vote does count and if you sit back and do nothing, nothing ever will change.
