Keep our city clean and casino-free!
Congratulations to the people of Brandon and our mayor and councillors for doing the right thing in keeping a casino out of our city. The gentleman who wrote “Brandon misses the boat again” doesn’t seem to understand that slot machines are the crack cocaine of gambling. Gambling is extremely addictive and it is often the people who can’t afford it who play the most. Most people who go to casinos do not go to shop in the stores … they spend it all in the casino, and the poverty increases. Casinos often bring crime. Our people don’t need more of that. Let’s continue to keep our city clean.
Slow them down with speed bumps
If our leaders were really concerned about school zones and the speed of the vehicles all they would have to do is to put in speed bumps. That would bring the speed of vehicles down to the desired speed.
Who let the barking dogs out?
It is impossible to have one’s doors and windows open in the evenings due to barking dogs. I don’t really blame the dogs. It is the people who own them, and are either deaf or incapable of training their dogs. There is a dog in my area that barked continuously from 11:30 p.m. to after 1:30 a.m. I did not know a dog could bark that long non-stop, and that happened three nights in a row. We had out-of-province visitors at the time and so not a good impression of Brandon. No, I did not call Animal Control, as I would have to go find the address, then let them know. Brentwood, please train your dogs to shut up.
You are better than that — show a little respect
Why is it that vehicles continue to park in front of homes that visibly have a ramp for wheelchairs? Do they not realize how difficult it is for the handicapped and elderly to manoeuvre around these vehicles when trying to gain access to their own homes? Come on, people, show a little respect as it could be you one day!
Where is the logic here?
I have concerns regarding the man from Nova Scotia who kidnapped and raped a young teenage boy and got two years and then I see in a recent story in the Brandon Sun about a grandfather who helped kidnap his own grandson gets 27 years — what is wrong with this picture? When is the government going to do something about this?
More cuts to the CBC
Who funds the CBC English channel? Oh ... the government? Well, thanks for all the cutbacks. Once again, are you not trying to keep Canada together or are you trying to tear it apart?
Where are all the cops at night?
While we appreciate the police department, I would prefer that they spend less time picking up offenders for breach of probation and more time arresting the punks slashing tires and breaking into houses … now we have sexual assaults happening. Perhaps police can start driving up and down back lanes or walking the beats and nailing these people before homeowners start taking matters into their own hands. It would be nice to actually see some cops out at night!
Thanks for picking up sticks
A big thank you goes to Brandon’s city workers who were busy pruning and wood-chipping downed tree limbs on our city boulevards recently. Thank you, fellows, for helping me by accepting my own very large tree limbs (which littered our yard after the storms), and which were way too large to fit in our car for a trip to the dump. You guys are terrifically helpful!
Something to be thankful for
I’m counting my blessings, one by one … again today. I was truly blessed in June 30 at about 5:20 p.m. when after leaving my purse in a shopping cart at a local store, I returned to customer service to find it sitting on the counter there waiting for me! My Canada Day was wonderful because of the honesty and kindness of the person who took my white purse (with the red pen sticking out of the end pocket) back to the store. Blessings to you and thanks.
Your concern and help was greatly appreciated
I would like to sound off with a big thank you to the gentleman who came to assist my wife and I when she had a health issue and called 911 at a local restaurant on June 21, to the ladies who helped and those who offered to help. To the restaurant and servers, thank you for your concern and understanding, and to emergency staff, doctors and nurses, great work by all and appreciated.
