Bring back corporal punishment!

Arsonists are next to murderers. The fires on 28th Street and First Street are prime examples. These people deserved to be caned and sentenced long term. All the do-gooders will not like this, but arsonists would not likely repeat. It works in Singapore.

Still waiting for receipt

Regarding Habitat for Humanity. I donated an item that I had repaired which was a dryer and it cost me $100 to have it repaired. When I donated it, I asked for a charitable receipt for the $100 and upon contacting the manager numerous times about it, I never, ever did receive the charitable receipt. When I contacted Habitat for Humanity’s national office, they told me a receipt should have been written by our local office. I have still not received that receipt.

Silly looking sign

My immediate reaction to seeing the picture of the new Brandon highway signs is OMG, please, please stop wasting my tax dollars on this meaningless, awful looking piece of abstract nothingness. What does it say to a traveller nearing Brandon? What the heck is that stupid thing?

Great looking signs

I was hoping that the city would clean up the mess of welcoming signs that greet visitors to our great community. And I think the new standards are smart and modern looking. Good job.

Lucky to be alive

On July 4, just after 6 a.m., my son and I were driving north on Highway 10 towards Forrest. It was raining really hard with some lightning and it was dark and visibility was poor. I was just about to turn left into an intersection when out of the blue a semi-trailer passed me, on the left hand side of the road, with no warning. There is no passing on that road because it is under construction. If I had made that left-hand turn, that would have been the last turn that I would have ever made on planet Earth. I guess that my time on this earth was not up yet. All motorists, please watch out for a maniacal semi-truck driver and please take down the licence number if you see him/her. I feel very fortunate to still be alive after crossing paths with you this morning.

An assignment well done

A big thank you to Grant Hamilton for the history and misadventures of the Prince Eddy. As a relative newcomer to Brandon, I found the series very interesting and informative. Well done, Grant!

An idiotic statement

Fisheries and Oceans Minister Keith Ashfield tells us “There are currently few tools to authorize pollution? The governments of Canada and Manitoba are doing a pretty good job without ‘any authorization!’” Please … let’s not confuse the issue with legislation that allows “pollution.”
