It’s all about safety — as seen on TV!
In response to the police pullovers. The officers are taught to park behind a vehicle like that. They pull over like that for a reason. Have these people not seen the commercial on TV where the officer was killed by a drunk driver while doing a traffic stop on the road? They use their vehicle as a barrier to prevent getting hit by drivers not slowing down and paying attention. If there was more respect for them and how they keep our communities safe, people wouldn't have to have this explained to them.
Casino in hotel?
Quit crying about a casino in Brandon, you would have had one if you hadn’t torn down the Prince Eddy Hotel. There would be one in there for sure.
Poor turnout for walk
I am very disappointed with the turnout for the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk on June 7. There were less than 50 walkers that took in this event. With a city the size of Brandon, that number should have been a lot higher. Almost 20,000 Manitobans have Alzheimer’s or related dementias. One in three Manitobans have a family member or close personal friend with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia (Alzheimer Society of Manitoba) I also was quite disappointed in the fact that there was no media involvement at the event Alzheimer’s ranks among killers such as heart disease, strokes and cancers.
How about making your kids more self-sufficient
My parents didn’t have two vehicles or family to rely on to take us to shop and home economics. We walked and took the bus. Yes, we walked to Crocus Plains high school from Earl Oxford or we took the bus. The school division probably should be responsible for having these options at the schools your kids attend, but they don’t. It has been an ongoing issue for years. So teach your kids that walking is good exercise or teach them to take the bus. We travelled in groups and was a great adventure. Thanks to my parents for teaching me to be an independent person and for not being afraid to let us learn new things.
Time wasted riding the bus
This is to the person who thinks the kids need to not have their hand held to get to shops classes. The parent’s point about busing the kids to shops is the inconvenience of sending them to a different schools and time spent getting them there. The parent’s point is if you want them to attend shops at Riverheights when they already have a shops class at Oxford where they attend, you provide the bus service. I have raised my kids here and it is no easy task getting them from Harrison to Riverheights. After all, they are kids and classes sometimes run over, buses are missed, etc. The best solution is to just keep the kids at their own school for shops if they have that facility. And we could bus the kids who don’t. If you look around there are a few school buses with hardly anyone on them so the shops kids could fit. This would keep everyone happy.
