Sound Off -- June 18, 2014

Thanks for the music

Congratulations to the students of Crocus Plains and Neelin marching band for their wonderful performance in the Travellers’ Day parade. Congratulations also to their teacher, Mr. Hudson, who is retiring after 31 years of service to young musicians in our city.

Many complaints warranted

I see all the complaints about the city garbage bin enforcement, mosquito spraying, dandelions and ongoing projects. Does city council not see this and realize they have decision and management problems. They state they are short of workers yet every worksite you drive by has two to three workers watching and one working (many apprentices, I guess)! They take forever to get things done but sure know how to spend our money and increase taxes … and yet our mayor is up for an award. Wake up, council — elections are coming soon!

She did better than the last

Sound Off seems to be becoming a forum for bashing our current mayor. The last one didn’t get the airport for us … did he?

Hint, hint, wink, wink!

Hey Neil Thompson, I heard Rob Zombie is doing a smaller venue tour like Motley Crüe and KISS did!

Accountability is what we need

I would like to commend the Sioux Valley “kunsi's” on their stance and their courage to openly voice their opinions and displeasure with the current elected officials of Sioux Valley. A large number of the Sioux Valley membership are of the same opinion but are afraid to air their grievances so publicly as these ladies are doing because they are afraid to lose their jobs or are afraid for family members employed within Sioux Valley. Come on, people — this is the 21st century and we do not live in a communist country! No leader should be allowed to have that much control over a community.

Confused by all the bins

The other day, I was having coffee with some guys and we were talking about these dumpsters. We have black, green and blue and no one seemed to agree what goes where. I was thinking maybe the city, perhaps in the water bill, could stick a list of stuff of what goes where or maybe an article in the newspaper because a lot of people are confused as to what goes where.
