Garbage bin solution

I have suggested on several occasions the solution for the garbage bins in back lanes. If the garbage or recycling needs to be emptied, have the bins facing the back lane ready for lifting into the truck. If the bins do not need dumping, have the bins turned towards one another indicating to the driver to keep going. (Facing out equals pick up; half-turn to face one another equals no pick up.) Sounds crazy enough to work, eh?

Safety over sanitation

Why doesn’t city council spend more time addressing vandalism and crime instead of garbage in the back lanes. Public safety should be its priority.

Garbage laws smell

Re: The newly proposed bylaws regarding dumpsters and recycle bins. How will they know if we’ve contaminated the recycle bins? Will the drivers get out and check them? They don’t even get out of their truck now if something accidentally falls out. And what if someone puts something in your dumpster without your permission?

Increase a red flag

The recent Manitoba Hydro request for a rate increase of 2.5 per cent effective Sept. 1 followed by another request of 3.5 per cent for April 2013 should be a red flag to all Manitobans that this Crown corporation is in trouble financially, not only because of a lack of internal expenditure management, but more importantly due to falling revenues resulting from much cheaper and ever expanding shale gas. There are deposits across the northern U.S., including the market for Bipole lll. These increases are just the beginning and don’t buy for a minute having the cheapest hydro rates in the country — our western neighbours all have much better access to cheaper natural gas as their main energy source.

Need more signs

Thanks to the anti-abortion people who put out the signs for the public to see. They should have more signs so the poor people who are in that situation can see that they are killing innocent lives which is murder. Listen to the New Testament and what it says about killing innocent blood.

Taking up rooms

Following up Myrna Driedger’s quotes on the lack of beds for personal care homes. How come in Boissevain at least two rooms have been converted to offices for management positions which people don’t even know if they are needed while patients wait in beds? Which is more important — patients or management? Is it okay for patients to wait in hospital beds while management takes up space in rooms converted into offices?

Thanks to the pothole crew

I would just like to thank the city’s public works department. I called the public pothole line and they came in two days and they fixed all the potholes I told them about. They were just wonderful. Hats off to the City of Brandon public pothole line.
