Why not ‘we’ instead of ‘me’

I was shocked and disgusted to hear of all of the complaints and unfounded accusations surrounding the noise at Relay for Life. What has happened to society when we have to tear down all that is good to make ourselves feel better. To be blunt — fight for cancer or a few hours of sleep — no contest — suck it up! I have watched three people literally die in front of me after a horrendous battle with cancer. Do you think I care about a few hours of lost sleep? I am forever grateful to the organizers and participants for doing such a tremendous job! To the complainers: You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Don’t complain ... come on out and see what it’s about

I was at Relay for Life as a volunteer this year and I thought the music was actually lower in volume than normal. I asked if they had gone around to all the neighbours and informed them that there was going to be extra noise and they said yes — but they couldn’t go to the whole North Hill. So people were warned. We never had complaints like this at the Keystone Centre or the Riverbank. Maybe these complainers need to get involved in the relay and find out what it is all about.

Taxing Brandon complaints

Regarding all the Brandon tax complaints — your slogan should be “The Whine Capital of the World,” all you do is whine, whine, whine about your taxes as well as other things, but you continued to vote no to a casino. Why? A casino, as well as employing a lot of people, pays huge tax dollars, that’s what you need for Brandon, get new businesses to pay taxes. Do you continue to vote no so no one can see you there? Those casino tour buses coming into Brandon don’t leave empty, there are lots of Brandon and area people at Belcourt, N.D. Oh wait ... it’s because you can smoke there. Well suffer Brandon with your high taxes, mine out here in the country haven’t gone up one cent.

Time to rethink capital punishment

I think it is high time that our politicians, federally and provincially, pass legislation to bring in capital and corporal punishment. When I watch on TV three RCMP officers killed in the line of duty and when you pick up the local paper and read all about these break-ins and God knows what else, I think until that is brought into this country, we would be better well served. Our jails would be half empty and would save the taxpayers millions and millions of dollars. So you politicians out there in Ottawa and Winnipeg, wake up to the fact that we are fed up and something must be done.

Spray drift destroying our yard

Well once again this year my home farm has been affected by spray. Out of the 20 years we have lived on the farm, the yard has been affected by spray drift at least 10 times. This year, there was an apple tree, all the maples around the yard, a row of bushes I planted and the garden affected. I am really getting tired of farmers and spray companies not taking into consideration the conditions when applying chemicals. With the wrong conditions, spray drift can travel miles and no one seems to be accountable. At this moment I wished I lived in town where chemical applications are tightly controlled.
