Sound Off -- June 22, 2012

Summer TV is bad

Why are there so many repeats on TV in the summer? It’s time to start turning the TV off for this season.

Religion is just superstition

The recent Sound Offs by the “bible people” I find interesting indeed. There is a reason the new generation has abandoned organized religions. If it wasn’t for religion, wars and strife would be almost non-existent in the world over the past centuries. Religion is superstition — plain and simple, with absolutely no basis in fact — whereas evolution has been proven factual and is as such accepted by the intelligent free thinking masses who haven’t been bridled by religious dogma from the cradle to the grave as past generations have.

My philosophy

I would rather live my life as if there is a higher power and die to find that there isn’t, than to live my life as if there wasn’t one only to die and find out that there is. Think about it.

Immigrants should be treated better

Regarding the population explosion due to Maple Leaf. I have actually seen some of the apartments that these workers live in and most people probably wouldn’t want to live in these. Basically the condition of these places are just like living in someone’s basement. Also these people are often coming here before the rest of their families and they are coming here for a better life. They have often had more hardships than anybody here has ever experienced. They are here doing the jobs that most Canadians do not want to do and living in places in which we would not wish to live. They are here to make a better life for themselves so I applaud them having the initiative to leave their country to come here and start all over and actually help out our economy.

A bright shining star

On June 19, at about 7:30 p.m. going out of the hospital going to the booth to pay my parking fee, a young gentleman said, “I’ll get that for you — you have a great day!” So there are good people out there and he finished my day on a positive note and touched my heart and made me feel so much better. Thank you so much to whomever you are. In amongst doom and gloom, there are bright stars out there.

Thanks for your help

A huge bouquet to the person who handed in my prescription to the Safeway pharmacy. I had left it in the bakery department. I thank you very much for handing it in.

Get out of the way of progress

For those of you in the old camp grounds at Clear Lake complaining, I have some tips for you — generations are changing. If you don’t like the way the 21st century is evolving with properties and infrastructure you can always sell. You know what your shacks are selling for, so please get out of the way of progress and move on!

The twisted truth

The writer from the first Sound Off comment from June 20 is no more confident of the existence of God than the typical agnostic. If he or she really believed in God, would it be necessary to “be safe than sorry for eternity?” Wouldn’t God know the difference between someone who truly believes and one who just pretends to believe? How many pretenders are there out there anyway? Likely many more than would be brave enough to admit it. As for the rest of this comment, there is no more evidence for the existence of God than there is against it.
