Why does gas remain so high?
So the price of oil is finally back down below $80 per barrel, but the price of gas is still above $1.20 per litre? I haven’t heard about any refinery in some far-flung location getting “hurricaned,” have you? Maybe our gas station owners or our member of parliament could come up with a reply to this question.
Damned if they do and damned if they don’t
In regards to the poll question on the Brandon Sun website the other day, “Did police overreact to an irate Hydro customer?” The police are damned if they do and damned if they don’t! What if this person was serious with their threat? What then? There should not be any second guessing of a situation like this. I, and I'm sure many others in our city, admire the professionalism of our fine police officers!
Don’t let a few bad apples spoil your career choice
Regarding the Sound Off “Police Service No Longer a Career Choice.” How sad for your son and you that he has made the choice not to pursue a career as a police officer. There has been much made in the media of some of the issues the RCMP and other police services are facing, however, what is portrayed in the media is not the whole story. The reality is there are thousands of good, honest, hardworking police officers who go about doing their job for the community every day. These officers by far outnumber the few who have come forward with issues or have been charged with criminal offenses. Has your son met some of the local detachment or police service members? Has he seen the service they give on a daily basis, when they are dealing with drunks, violent crimes, deaths and many, many more calls for service? If your son is a good young man who wants to do something within the community, then I would urge both of you to look further than media reports. Being a police officer is still very much an honorable profession.
You make the world a better place
Thank you to the clerks at Walmart. It looks like there are still some honest people around. They returned my wallet to the courtesy desk and all the money was still in there. This world is still a beautiful place to live when there are good Christian people still out there. Thanks to the Walmart staff and I hope they see this message.
Stop the smokescreen!
Most articles are blaming the unions that provide service to the City of Brandon for higher taxes in which they received a meagre two per cent wage increase. The mayor and council (which were elected by the taxpayers) need to look at all the city managers, junior managers, supervisors, etc. that supposedly only got was a wage adjustment (fancy name for salary increase). There was mention of this back in the spring but as usual it got swept under the carpet. The mayor and council owe it to the taxpayers to be given the real numbers in percentages, not a smoke screen.
Hey, I’m driving as fast as I can
Hey dudes with the long hair and the baggy pants, stop aggressively passing me. I’m only driving a few km/h below the speed limit and it’s because I am a nervous driver to begin with and would appreciate a little courtesy.

The flower display on the south side of the Sportsplex are really awesome. It is nice to see some areas getting back in shape.
