Mayor bashing is unfair
Will the Brandon Sun editors please stop letting anonymous trolls bash our sitting mayor during this election campaign? I read nothing about any other candidates seeking office in Sound Off. Shouldn’t there be some fairness exhibited by the Sun? Either don’t run those attacks, or make people sign their names to their opinions and run them in the letters area. Just my two cents.
Wrong speech for National Aboriginal Day!
I went to the Aboriginal Day celebrations on Saturday and was disappointed to hear Mayor Shari Decter Hirst talking about the different people from other countries. This day was to honour our aboriginal peoples who have been here since the beginning of time. Save your special speech for multicultural day next time, mayor!
Lame city engineers
So our city engineers think last weekend’s rains are caused by “climate change” and are a “new normal.” The same article said that rainfall exceeding that last weekend has occurred well back in history, and that what we got is not a new record. We get wet cycles and dry cycles, and lots of average years. Weather is not climate and engineers should be very skeptical of numbers that are exaggerated and used as an excuse for planning that didn’t work. Brandon was hit by far more rain than even Alexander and Carberry — so I guess the “climate change” and “new normal” only apply to the city. Get serious, folks — it is weather, it happens.
Facts — not fear-mongering!
The Sound Off writer upset with so-called environmentalists spewing, and refers to them as zealots (Brandon Sun, June 21). The destructive forces of a nuclear weapon are well recorded in history, Hiroshima. The destructive events that are presently happening at the tarsands are also well recorded, but the underlying and most tragic part of all is that our government is promoting and allowing this devastation to happen, affecting water sources, environment and the people. A recent assessment by 300 scientists has determined that climate change is here and getting worse. That is fact ... not fear-mongering.
May be time to rethink
In a week it will be two months that the owners of 701 Rosser Ave. had to submit their building plans. Have they done so? If they have indeed submitted their plans, how much longer will the project take before completion? Maybe throwing in the towel is an option especially considering the property still owes back taxes!
Isn’t that just like Brandon — being greedy
So we didn’t want a casino but we want to benefit from Carberry’s casino. So Carberry, what is stopping you from putting up a nice Super 8 or other type of hotel and keep the business in your community? Shame on you, Brandon, for wanting to reap the benefits from what you didn’t want in the first place.
