Sound Off -- June 30, 2014

My thoughts on the cancer walk

Yes the noise is unbearable and is run by someone who will be deaf soon. My wife is a cancer survivor, thanks to the excellent care in Brandon and Winnipeg hospitals and the Cancer Care centre. We used to attend the walk to support the cancer fund, but we were so blown away with the noise we had to leave. When the person operating the music feels you have to literally feel the sound waves, please give the job to someone with some common sense. People will stay longer and spend more money and enjoy the experience. This is not rocket science.

Rent going up due to garbage pickup?

I’m pretty pleased by the city’s decision to go back to large bins for apartment buildings. But they are charging the building owners, which means my rent is going up. Garbage pickup is included in property taxes — isn’t it? City hall keeps crying out for affordable housing, but I see a lot of small apartment buildings for sale because they are making it harder and harder for these small business owners. I do wish people would stop dumping mattresses and couches behind my house though. It is unsightly and a fire hazard.

Not a news story

Did they steal the money? Did they embezzle the funds? No, they earned their salaries and wages as employees of the City of Brandon. The Sun’s lead story in the June 25 paper on city employees’ pay packages was not news, it was a curiosity piece at best. The news story should have been the woeful job of negotiating the city obviously does. You’d wonder if city negotiators were even in the room when the deals were done.

I’ll make you a trade

Did you purchase a silver-plated cream and sugar set at the June 7 garage sale on Daly Crescent? The sugar bowl was inadvertently switched with a trophy bowl. If this was you, please return to the Daly Crescent garage for a grateful trade. Thank you.

Thanks for stealing my blooming plants!

Just like to thank the person or persons who have stole three of my hanging baskets over the past week. I hope you enjoy watching the flowers grow at someone else’s expense. They will not be replaced.
