Sound Off -- June 8, 2012

Thanks for your honesty

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank the person who dropped off a box at the Women’s Resource Centre. The box contained my camera and pictures. The pictures had even been developed and they were of my daughter who passed away some time ago. It brought tears to my eyes and touched my heart. The box was given to me at the Women’s Centre on June 5. So whoever did it, thank you so very much! I would like to meet you in person to thank you a lot. There are not many honest people out there like you.

Listen to the electorate

What I would like to know is how did this elected council and mayor get so far off track? They started out fine and then start talking about a casino (even though, we as a majority of citizens, said no), then they stick it to us with our property taxes. Now they are taking the casino issue even further, against our wishes and even spending our tax dollars on trips to casinos. What part of “no” don’t you understand? What is next? Maybe you should just outlaw elections and become rulers for life; you don’t listen to the electorate anyway. We will however speak on Oct. 14, 2014.

If we only had a casino

I am so sick of people complaining about their tax increase. We knew it was coming, we got it, can’t do anything about it. If only we had a casino or something to help us pay for things that our taxes pay now … hmmm.

I am not a drunk

These people who call 911 to report a suspected drunk driver are getting on my nerves. Once I was pulled over because I swerved to miss a pothole and the other because someone mistook my Dr Pepper can for a Budweiser. Trust me, I would much rather have had the Bud. You are wasting my time and police resources on your hunch of a good deed.

Cancer Walk deserved more coverage

Why is it that there was so little coverage in The Brandon Sun on the Cancer Relay For Life walk that took place last Friday? It is an important event for many people that are battling with this disease or have lost a loved one to cancer. Many pictures were taken, but only a few published. I think it’s a shame that all the hard work people did to make this event a success did not warrant better coverage. I guess moving a lodge to the south of Onanole was more important. After all, it got the front page!

Irresponsible biker

I’ve riden motorcycles for 25 plus years and I know how hard the industry has worked to repair the tarnish image of the biker. However, there are still “morons” out there. Like the one crossing the 18th Street bridge on the afternoon of June 5, on his green sport bike that deliberately drove between the two lanes of cars so he could get ahead of slower drivers. Obviously you’re a novice rider because even a person with half a brain would not do what you did. It was illegal, immature and stupid and you put every car you passed between at risk of causing an accident. I hope the cops spot you soon and give you what you so rightly deserve.
