Sound Off -- March 13, 2014

What about the bully who bullies the bully?

The anti-bully law still seems to have more questions than answers. A recent headline in the paper read, “Girl Gets Probation For School Assault” — where are the charges for the girl or the initial bully? Young man in Carberry who made shots at windows — what happened to the person who initially bullied him? I realize that people who retaliate have to face the consequences of what they have done, but who limits the original bully? That is where the bullying needs to stop. It seems the same people get away continuously bullying people.

Look who is a bully now

As the government keeps raising the prices on cigarettes therefore continually attacking smokers, I would consider that bullying people, don’t you? I thought the government and people were against this sort of thing. Wise up, people.

Issue could have been handled better

I am saddened that the Brandon School Division and Brandon police have chosen to lay criminal charges against a 17-year-old boy for having a temper tantrum/profanity shouting rage. With all the money we taxpayers have provided, all the counsellors and resource people, this is the best they can do? It is an abuse of power, it is “bullying.” The intolerance and totalitarian leadership is embarrassing. Shame on all involved. Obviously, the boy needs some serious help and so do our “professionals!” Where is the voice of reason? Where is the compassion and understanding? What is happening to our society?

Get your facts straight

Regarding the Sound Off, “School Trips Should Be Cancelled.” Every school has a parent council that raises money for such expenses. As a parent, I am engaged in various forms of fundraisers through the year. Get your facts straight before making such uneducated comments. My child is going on a school-organized ski trip this week and it is costing me more than $80 for her to attend and a portion of that cost was for the bus. Students need these types of trips as incentive and reward for the hard work they do. Which mainly comes out of my pocket as a parent.

Take responsibility for your own kids

In a recent Sound Off a person asked, “Am I supposed to feed my neighbours’ children?” No, no! We as parents have a responsibility to properly feed, clothe and prepare our children to be educated, yes? There are parents who do that. I raised my children to have their breakfast before they got on the school bus to school. I do not agree that children nowadays have theirs at school. What is our world coming to? Parents with children are their responsibility not their neighbours. Why should they have to go to school hungry? Come on, parents, do your duty to your children. This has become a regular thing.
