Make the rules the same!

High school hockey is so good to watch! But why do we only have two 15-minute periods and then a flood and a 20-minute period? Why are these kids shortchanged? Fast paced hard hitting game but not given the same respect as the small towns do! Do the other high school sports in Brandon have a different set of rules for time played? I am thinking not! Really it is an extra 30 minutes of ice rental that the kids pay for! Come on high school hockey, get with the program!

Gas prices out of line

Having returned from Winnipeg, I find Brandon’s gas prices are really out of line. Winnipeg’s gas prices are 90.6 cents a litre. Brandon’s price is 99.9 cents a litre — nearly 10 cents a litre more. That’s about $4 for 20 litres more or, about $8 a tank. They’ve been that way for days. I’m tired of being ripped off for gas, but our gas stations won’t complain to the oil companies. In fact, they won’t even charge a cent or two less because of their agreement on competition.

Do we need experienced registered nurses or not?

A young registered nurse from Taiwan comes to Canada at her own expense and for three years studies to qualify for a Canadian RN and graduates with flying colours. She fluently speaks five languages — now would this be an asset or not in this diverse country of ours? She has been denied Canadian citizenship, even though she has been offered three well-paying positions and is more than ready and able to start working and paying taxes.

Liberal party has its priorities backwards

I am writing to express my disappointment in the Trudeau Liberal party and the possible cuts coming to the ACC ESL program. It is critical to support our permanent residents with English so that they can fit into Canadian society. Both the language and the culture are very important to understand to integrate properly over time. Instead of supporting those who plan to remain in Canada, the federal government plans to send $20 million “out of our country” to 50 different countries to pay for their abortions. These priorities are backwards. Let’s keep more of our tax dollars in Canada to support those who have made Canada their home and ensure their future success.

It’s what the public demands

Regarding the editorial from the Winnipeg Free Press in March 7 paper “All-Day Breakfast, But at What Cost to Our Health?” Why single out McDonald’s? The burger giant is only giving the public what they demand. McDonald’s discloses all ingredients in their menu. It is up to the public to eat healthier foods. If you look back, McDonald’s has tried to introduce healthy foods to their menu, only to remove them due to lack of sales.
