Back off with the cameras
To me, it is appalling that television cameras are shoved into the faces of people who are grieving, such as the families of the Korean ferry disaster and the loss of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Also. there were actually closeups of Christine Elliott and her three sons in the middle of Jim Flaherty’s funeral. Cut it out.
Make them accountable for their actions
Just what is our society/city coming to? On reading the article regarding the graffiti, I was disappointed that there was no mention of finding out who did it and making them responsible for their actions. It was all about cleaning up the mess at the victims’ expense and the impression that it would have on the city! This is vandalism — just the beginning of a life of crime. It needs to be stopped and stopped now! Remember the Canadian visiting in another country a few years ago who was sentenced to a series of lashes for breaking the law there — I’m sure he would think twice before doing it again! We need some teeth in our laws — something that these people who participate in such crimes will remember and showing that such acts of violence against innocent citizens will not be tolerated. We need a good deterrent carried out a few times. People who break the law should have no rights other than getting right and obeying the law!
If you use it, you must pay
School buses should be available for every young child. We shouldn’t be basing it on arbitrary rules that result in court cases. Just make everyone pay, no exceptions, and those who don’t need the bus will choose not to use it.
Kudos to Team Extreme
Kudos to Team Extreme, their coaches and parents for hosting the U17 and U18 club volleyball provincials this past weekend at the Healthy Living Centre. A job well done! For those of you not familiar with Team Extreme (including the Brandon Sun), they are the other U18 team in Brandon. Check them out sometime!
Get Saskatchewan and Alberta on board
According to recent news reports, experts agree the world has to reduce greenhouse gases by 50 per cent by 2050. With this in mind, I would suggest that Manitoba Hydro build the two power plants proposed for the Nelson River. When they come online, sell the surplus power to Saskatchewan and Alberta so that they can retire their coal and gas power plants with our green energy.
Don’t forget to apply
I hope our Brandon City Council and our provincial government have sent in all the necessary applications to get federal grant money to upgrade the Brandon airport. If we don’t get our applications in quickly, I am sure someone else will get all the federal grant money.
