Sound Off! -- May 16, 2012

What’s the difference?

I'm just wondering if the people who criticize (and therefore hurt attendance numbers) the hard-working volunteer Shriners and performers that put on the annual Shrine Circus as a charity fundraiser are the same ones who will be front and centre at the upcoming charity dog fashion show? Why are animal lovers quick to bad mouth the circus and yet dressing up their dogs for their amusement and fashion is different ... how?

Casino should be Sioux Valley’s choice first

Brandon residents should be outraged at your mayor for going against your wishes and considering a casino. Even if it is just discussions, it’s quite obvious that Brandon doesn’t want a casino. If anything, Sioux Valley Dakota Nation has a feasibility study and proposal ready to go. Sioux Valley Dakota Nation deserves first priority.

Casino alternative

I encourage persons interested in a casino to consider the following: members of Waywayseecappo, Sioux Valley and Birdtail are sitting on a gold mine. They have the land base, water, power (both electric and solar) and man power to enter into the market garden and greenhouse venture. Produce wholesome food for their people and others. Hills into which they can build root cellars; principal roads (Highways 45, 21 & 83) on which they can have vending stands. The potential is endless in a society in which the population is ever-increasing. Little else is more important than wholesome food.

Kudos to Mayor Shari!

She has the dog wagging the tail! And about time. I have lived here 49 years and have seen many opportunities go to other cities because of odours, noise, increased traffic, etc. For goodness sake, this is not a village! Cities grow and I am thankful that Brandon is doing just that. We elect the council to make rational decisions; business decisions. Certainly not a responsibility that most of us would want. Let the dog wag the tail and let the city grow up.

Should be fines for car lap dogs

Every day I see idiots driving their cars with dogs on their laps, half hanging out of the car window. I have never seen one being ticketed, in fact I saw one police car pull alongside of one car at a red light, then proceed when the light changed to green. Pet harnesses are available, why is it not law that they must be used?

Hats off to you

Kudos to those of you who know how to stop when there is a funeral procession going by. I thought it was just awesome that people stopped and showed their respect when my grandfather passed away. They took their hats off and many stopped and waved. I think it is great that people in Westman still know how to do something like that.
